A different mentality?

England

I think the difference between this team and the one under the last administration (although very early on) is the difference in attitude of the people in power. It was a motto of "do badly and you’re dropped" which is typified by the Keeper debacle.

Now however due to Pietersens faith in HIS selection (maybe due to his ego, I don't know him personally) it's simply "I've picked you, you will do well".
A very useful mentality to spread through the team, everyone knows they have the full faith of the man in charge.

So far I refuse to go OTT with all the praise england are getting. dont get me wrong they've played well, however they're some people on here who think England will now sweep all before them, and any opposition are now below them.

Personally, lets see what India brings and even the Aussies. You have to admit, England have been fortunate that SA havent really helped themselves. Maybe then we will have a true reflection on pietersens captaincy / motivation skills.

If Pietersen decides to opt for an additional bowler (as he did in his only test as Captain) then Prior needs to play regardless of his weaknesses with the gloves (real or perceived) because you need a batting wickey ahead of a safe pair of hands. The additional bowler should ensure more chances negating the effects of the dropped catches, and Prior's batting will be required due to the loss of a batsman at the hands of another bowler.

I have much common ground with jovialStelladave - maybe that's why we are....jovial.
I believe that KP for ,reasons of his own ,is giving Peter Moores a breathing space. He and his fellow coaches have failed to deliver good technique coupled with spirit of a "collective" or "team" nature. It's happening now because these men are professionals and they know what works....but yes the change of mind set is so obvious and SO welcome...and it's down to leadership....Flintoff is so right and the others have just that understanding.........

Rather than witter(in such an uninformed way except for statistics) on about the individual players selected and their various merits, may I suggest we should revel in good cricket, good spirit and good results.

What makes all the peole on these comments so resentful, negative and pessimistic?

Early on I wanted Vaughan to resign(he did on cue)and for Moores and the selectors to be sacked en bloc(it didn't happen)and now kp has redeemed them.....but the price will be that he runs the show or wants to know why not!!!

As Macdonalds ad says.....I'm lovin it.....

I would just like to say....

I am sick of people calling KP Non-British or not English!

KP was at worst Half-English, before coming to England. He was certainly British before coming to England because of his mother and the laws of United Kingdom state as much.

By continuing to state such ignorant comments only reinforces separatist and discriminatory views in our pluralist society.

KP left SA on grounds of discriminatory action, why then do you persist to place such views on him.

I think many of you would not say such comments to people who have arrived at our shores and excelled and made both England and Britain proud of them, if their colour was not white.

He has English blood running through him.
He has the three Lions tattooed on his shoulder.
He fights for and defends England.

KP - you are a true Englishman!

I would not question KP's citenzenship as English, or either his committment to English Cricket, he is a class act. But in my opinion he is not english. He grew up in South Africa, he also speaks with a south african accent while giving interviews. Having a British mother makes him have a British passport but doesnt make him British as he grew up in SA. Many people will argue with this fact.

The fault here does not lie in KP cause every person in his position would have probably done same but in the South African board that did not give him the adequete opportunity on the basis of there quota system which is completely ridiculous. Any south africans that complain about his nationality have only there own board to blame.

I do not want to get into him having the three lions tattoed on his arm.

I think England should be proud and happy that they have such a talented player playing for them but need to accept it that he grew up in South Africa and choose to play for England due to certain circumstances.
