Any thoughts on the race?

Casey - Desperate to get some points back on Rossi and on pole again. Very impressive.

Rossi - Desperate to win is my guess after disappointing his 'Home' fans at this race last year. My guess is that he will be happy with any result that means he finishes in front of Stoner but in reality he will want to win this one.

Lorenzo - Back up to speed and desperate to finish well. Is he willing to ride 'Shotgun' to Rossi's title challenge - I doubt it but possibly?????

So, the front row are all desperate to win for their own reasons. I can't see anyone else challenging for the win this weekend and hope that Lorenzo's Michellins allow him to ride at the front!!!!

Personally I'd like to see Lorenzo win (for a change to recent winners) and Rossi to get in front of Casey. Don't think it'll happen though. I'm going for Rossi 1st, Casey DNF, Lorenzo 2nd and Elias 3rd (riding high at the moment).

It is very clear to me that Stoner cannot take the pressure. Last year Rossi's bike was not up to scratch and his tyres were weak. This year his bike still is not as fast as Stoner's but as he's on the same tyres he is back at his best. As soon as Stoner feels Rossi is getting in any way close he panicks and comes off. Surely by now, nobody can argue against that. Stoner is a very fast rider and great when he is left to win on his own but can't cope when Rossi is catching up. He can't cope in a battle situation. Misano has very few straight runs and lots of bends and he knows Rossi is much stronger at breaking so in order to prevent a situation where he might have to battle a stronger rossi on corners he went to fast and came off. To me a great rider is a great battler, not someone who wants to win easily every time with a five second gap. Rossi is the Greatest Of All Time. I feel lucky that he I am part of the generation to experience his talent. Of course there are other great riders out there but Rossi is in a league of his own. I think Lorenzo represents his biggest challenge in years to come. I was delighted to see him back on the podium. Hopefully that represents the return of his confidence. It would be great to see some battles between him and Rossi for the rest of the season.

Rossi is the form man and Casey knows that the only way to beat him is to give it 100% every single lap of the race. The ducati is still the number one bike but Rossi (and Lorenzo) make that Yamaha go like a train. We didnt see the best of Rossi yesterday, im convinced he would have caught Casey towards the end of the race had Casey not crashed.

3 crashes in a row. Pressure, anyone?

but Rossi wins races because he's the best rider and no-one can live with him

===============================================

Which is why he went to Yamaha in the first place. You have to have even more respect for him for that. He could have stayed at Honda (who everyone felt were unbeatable) and reeled off the titles, but instead he chose to challenge himself and prove he could beat everyone even on a weaker bike.

His place in history was already secure but he has now proven himself time and again to one of, if the, best ever.

saw stoner spin off yesterday, and just want to state that as a rossi fan i didnt cheer. i prefer to see a good battle, like the ones they were showing in the last 5 laps for 5, 6 & 7th place. better race than the brno one. I know there was no way he coudlve caught up with rossi again, but would it have been worth KC getting back on and getting some points back, or had he done his hand in?

Great prediction.
Valentino has got the championship now and he has got to Casey mentally more than anything else.
For those people getting hung up on the Casey crasher thing I wouldnt worry about it.I love watching Rossi because he pushes the envelope and occasionally crashes. if Casey can get his head back together he can come back next year.He is fast and talented no doubt.Great to see Elias back in there. Love watching him .Lorenzo and Dovi both on form and healthy.Could be a great 2009.
Rossi though awesome again.

I agree skidd, and if CS gets it back together we could have more races like Laguna this year and the old dust ups between Rossi / Loris and Rossi / Gibernau - at the end of the day that's what most of us want to see - we all have our favourites, and I go for Valentino, but you can't beat a good bit of paint swapping and those seem to have become less common in recent times. At the end of the season, the person who wins usually deserves it so whoever it is you've got to take your hat off to them. And in CS's case, he's likely to get a few more shots at the title. Bring on the last five races and loving Gorgeous George being back on form.

GL1978 You are so wrong about Rossi not being able to catch up with Casey in this race. Rossi is a master and with his racing knowledge would have caught up with him. Casey can only win when he has a clean stretch of road ahead of him and the knowledge that his bike is the fastest in the field. Once he gets competitive his head falls off and he makes stupid mistakes. He does not have the racing mind set and when things go wrong he blames other people or even worse he throws his dummy out of the pram and wont talk to the press at all. i do have to say I also didnt not cheer because I felt that we could have been in for a good race, wheel to wheel but because he couldnt hold his nerve this wasnt to be!
