Phil Thompson

Premier League Liverpool
comment on the article

Fair play to him, on Gillette Soccer Saturday bloomin' Jeff Stelling says something to him bad about Liverpool, sometimes rightly so, and he just sticks up for Liverpool. I think its brilliant. They are all laughing at him and he just doesn't care..

Thompson lives and breathes Liverpool Football Club and that's no bad thing in my book. Multitude of honours, great servant to the club as player and assistant manager. Many could learn a thing or two from someone who has been there and done it.

I like Phil Thompson, and I'm a United fan. He seems harmless enough despite his bias. I much prefer him over the likes of Merson.

RedAddict - Denis Irwin was a Man United player that I had great respect for. I don't think I ever saw him have a bad game. A great servant to your club, both on and off the field. An unsung hero I always thought.

hes an idiot, he went on about Villa having no money and they needed the money off Barry to buy anybody.

Biggest spenders in the Prem and we still have Barry

Not as much of an idiot as Martin O Neill , who still hasnt realised that it will cost Villa about 11.8 MILLION POUNDS to keep Gareth Barry for ONE SEASON.And about £24.6 MILLION for 2 years

Player depreciation - You would have got about £17m this season , you will get that half that next season, lets say £9m.If you dont sell him on then you will lose a further £9m.

It is rumoured that Barry is to be offered a new contract. That new contract will HAVE MORE CLAUSE/CLAWS IN IT THAN A PRIDE OF SABRE TOOTH TIGERS.It is said his new contract will be lifted from about £40k a week to £75k a week , about £3.8m a year. The clauses will say he will be allowed to leave , " no questions asked" if a team stumps up a certain amount of money ( about £9m ).

£3.8M + 8M = £11.8M for 1st year
£3.8M + 9M = £12.8M for 2nd year

So to summerise every week G Barry plays for Villa this year he costs you £227, 000.In lost transfer fees and wages.Hope hes worth it!!!!!!!!!!!

Villa have missed an opportunity to cash in, they are left with a player who has said he wants to leave and whos price will be around 10m at the end of the season.

MON should have accpeted the 16/17m bid

he wasnt offered 16 0r 17 they said he was only worth 12 so even if he did leave he only cost us 2 mill for the season and when we finish above liverplop he will stay anyway
