England One Day Renaissance

One-day internationals England

England on course for a 3 - 0 victory
Is the Becky Adlington & Co effect rubbing off on English cricket ? Are we seeing the next World one day champions here ? If England practice as hard as Becky, the cyclists and the rowers did they can see off any team including the Aussies.

Its a pity though that the South African batting in the middle order is hamstrung by the absence of the likes of Justine Kemp & Andrew Hall who have been excluded for silliest of reasons. Can't the cricketers' fraternity take up their case (and that of Shane Bond) in an English court of law ?

England now have an attacking captain who the players are inspired by. Previously they had Vaughan who was a big girls blouse. As well as being a poor batsman who continually got out cheap he was clueless at setting fields and getting the bowling order right.
He was also completely weak and non inspirational.
England look a completely different outfit under KP, and we are 4 wins on the trot.
I would say England have had the best talent in the world for a fair while now and were just waiting for the right leader to motivate and inspire them. I can see us being number 1 in the world in all forms for quite some time now.

What on earth is Kumar talking about in the lead post? The Adlington effect????? The England team are full-time professionals, some of whom have been so for over ten years. They are skilled and succeed due to application of that skill. Adlington swims up and down in a couple of races and finishes ahead of some other swimmers. How dare you reduce a professional international sports team to the level of Adlington? "If England practice as hard as Becky" What the f???? Yes, if they didn't play for six months. And had a sport that was skillless like swimming.

The lead post is idiotic.

England have been coming in to form just in time for the Champions Trophy and the chance to finally win that elusive major trophy. Oh damn! They will have to be content with a meaningless match for lots of money. Which would KP and the boys prefer?

To have a keeper who can bat and 3 good bowlers who can bat - that's a real first. Never seen patel before but he looks a quality cricketer. If prior fred patel and broad bat at 6,7,8 and 9 suddenly a 5 man bowling attack looks a real possibility at test level.

England started playing good cricket. However players should start weight lifting. Look at Freddie, nothing but FAT! Absurd.

Levdavidovich: If you think that swimming is skilless then why do some people go faster than others? I'll bet Rebecca Adlington has greater cardiovascular fitness than most of the England cricket team.

Are you named for Lev Davidovich Landau, the Soviet physicist? I wrote a biographical sketch of him.

I don't think it's the Adlington effect. If anything, it's the Pieterson effect.

I'll hold my hand up and say I wasn't in the Pieterson camp, when Vaughan resigned and the captaincy became vacant. I preferred Strauss.

However, it now seems that Pieterson has galvanised more or less the same players that Vaughan had at his disposal and turned them into a team. I can't really tell from where I sit, but Pieterson seems to me a driven person. Having won the OD series, he wants a whitewash! That's so cool. I want a whitewash too and if Pieterson can inspire the team to deliver it, then he's the man for me.

All eyes on Lord's and Cardiff next week - but beyond that the tour of India promises to be a testing tour. I'd like to say a struggle of Titans, but we'll see, we'll see.

- One thing is for sure. More long cold winter nights spent in the company of Messrs Mitchener, Soneji, Fordyce & Dirs! Warm my heart boys. I think we have a team again, not eleven individuals.
