Live - Uefa Cup draw

Uefa Cup
comment on the article

Fancy seeing your team lift that colossal chunk of sculpted silver in Istanbul come May?

Thought so.

Just three British clubs have won the Uefa Cup in the past 30 years but with six teams peppering a pot of 80 at this first-round knockout stage - prior to those bizarrely-organised group stages which will thankfully be axed next year - hopes will be high one of them can make it four in 2008.

Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Portsmouth, Everton and Motherwell won't care that it's the neglected outcast cousin of a competition to Uefa's spoilt star child Champion's League.

All bar Motherwell are seeded in the draw today so it's likely most teams will be trekking off to parts of the continent which even the most obscure budget airlines struggle to find a market for.

But surely that's all part of the passport-producing adventure?

Motherwell, I should add as a disclaimer, can be drawn against two big guns in the shape of Valencia and, erm, Manchester City.

And despite the presence of countless unpronouncables, some of Europe's biggest clubs - and subsequently its best players - are in the hat today (though all are seeded so you're safe for now).

Ronaldinho's AC Milan are the pick, while Ajax, Benfica, Napoli, Feyenoord, Schalke 04, Galatasaray, Valencia and CSKA Moscow all boast recent pedigree or an illustrious history - some both.

Can one of the Brit-pack pick its way through that little lot?

Sit back and relax whilst I bring you all the ball-swirling action from some uber-swanky conference room in Monaco and make sure you GET INVOLVED with all the raging debate here on 606.....

Not a bad draw for Motherwell. Should have a chance against Nancy over 180 minutes. Fir Park should be packed to the rafters for the second leg.

These teams that City keep drawing, are Uefa making them up as they go along. If they get through can we expect a group of City, oswaldtwistle town, Fc trumpton and Zurich fc youth club 3rd team?

No problems for Spurs we be the only english side in the compition when the quater final draw is made
-----------------------------------------------

you guys `ve been sort of lucky. Lech Poznan is stronger this season than Wisla. Lech Poznan - Grasshopers Zurich 6:0 in the qualifier.

However I cant see Tottenham scoring many goals . You may qualify in extra time or pens.

I hope Everton get the same treatment as Liverpool from the tough, spirited and frankly good Liege team! It's a pity they lost because there are teams in the CL proper now that they could easily replace, Everton to go out by 1 goal...!
