Fizman - Wenger can spend £30m......

Who else is sick and tired of hearing either Fizman or one of the other board members coming out saying "Wenger has X amount available" It's a tired old, un-news worthy statement that I for one am sick of hearing. It's almost as if the board are saying to us fans "Listen poeople the money's there, If he ( Wenger ) doesn't spend it and mucks it up it's not our fault, Blame him".

Like Arsene said. No club should be spending above it's means out of speculation. It hurts other clubs when they can not cover payments on players they buy for ridiculous amounts. Arsene is ahead and doing what the Americans had been talking about implementing at ManUSA.

He is way ahead of the pack and when other clubs start getting undone by their own finances you will appreciate that Arsenal have been contenders in so many competitions all this time with a young low maintenance squad. They may even win trophies in their current state and I don't se any reason why they can't.

A few years from now when the Russian jumps ship and ManU falls apart from some financial situation you will be glad that Arsene can keep Arsenal as credible contenders without having to spend 30m on and individual just to appease the masses while leading the club into Leeds type doom.

The success is long term and should be appreciated by true supports.

I think WENGER should bring back Thiery Henry in the club in any price as did Milan to Shevchenko, because every lion frightens in its forest.

Before the start of this season, wenger had only spent £84,000,000 on buying players in 12 years. Now look at Chelsea. Before the start of LAST season, Abramovich had invested £580,000,000 in players since 2003. That means that in 12 years, Wenger spent less on a stadium and pretty good players than Abramovich spent on pretty much mediocre players (well, most of them, anyway!) in 4 years. I think that with Wenger's usually limited resources, he should be able to work wonders with £30,000,000!

Is buying a player or two the solution of winning or losing? I think not. If we were not unlucky last season regarding some ridiculous decisions by those dick headed referees, we would have won the league quite easily. Fans can discuss but to personally attack the club's personnel in open forum, in my book, is not acceptable. I don't necessarily like some of the people in the club but, whether it is noticed or not, I rather voice this concern to the club directly. A lot of us do support the club here but there is a handful who called themselves fans but could not wait to attack the club or it's personnel, given them the slightest chance.

the problem is that the £30 million is almost being demanded to be spent by the press and pundits.

I agree Arsenal need a tough tackling CM, and possibly a keeper, but once the injuries clear other than the midfield role, Wenger doesn't need to spend.

That and do you even get value for money for £30million these days? Looking at the stupidly inlated prices (especially if you want to buy British) Wenger's being astute in not panic buying and wasting money.

I would like to see Alonso at the Emirates, but Benitez probably wants 16-18 million for him, and although he is a good player, he aint worth that.

Although the Vieira thing mentioned earlier is interesting, as with his age he'd probably not be 1st choice, cheap as well and could still stand in and do a job if needed.

Why would we spend money on bringing back Henry and Vieira? At the risk of sounding harsh, they are at the end of their careers, as far as top flight football is concerned. Plus, as far as I can see, Wenger sold them at the right time. Henry especially was doing my head in with his prima donna sulking and pointing routine, and stifling some of the youger players. I think he almost single-handedly destroyed Reyes' confidence, with his head shaking and standing there with his hands on his hips. I would not like to see him back.

[Where's this fabled Arsenal academy that churns out dozens of homegrown yougsters then??? there isn't one - or if there is it only turns out a few decent players who then can't get into the first team...]

Yes, and many of those lads are currently propping up teams the length and breadth of England - so you could say that Arsenal are single-handedly improving the standard of football played across the country!

Bottom line - Arsene knows.

i am an arsenal fan in Nigeria and we need to win trophies, i believe in young players as well cos play play football manager alot and i use young players alot but if they are not giving results why not try and mix both young players and superstars together, i cant forget the days of Overmars, Bergkamp, Viera, Wiltord, Pires, Kanu, Parlour, Lungberg, Edu, Campbell, Lauren, Cole, Adams, the legendary Thierry Henry and so on, these were players that played for their national team and had alot of experience to influence a team, we need players like that but i still believe in my wonder kids, we will win a cup this year.

United beat that Chelsea side on the last Saturday, and were one penalty away from losing to it in the Champions league.

That Chelsea side now has a quality manager, with the board backing. That Chelsea side now has a fully fit squad – so the likes of Essien can actually play in midfield. That Chelsea side has no African Nations taking away 3 of it’s best players away for a month. That Chelsea side has added 2 world class players, and will probably get a 3rd before Monday.

Seriously, Chelsea nearly did it last season, and they have improved significantly since then. Have United done the same? With an unhappy Ronaldo, they could even have gone backwards a bit.

If United fans aren’t seriously concerned about a Chelsea title threat this season, then you must have something wrong in the old nut.

======================
Can't help but look at this comment now and laugh - especially the bit about having a quality manager and the board backing (didn't they sack him just a few months later)

As for Chelsea being much improved and Man Utd going backwards laughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaughlaugh
