Zabaleta heading for Man City

Manchester City

comment on the article

Manchester City are on the verge of signing Argentine international Pablo Zabaleta for £6.45m.

A statement on the Espanyol website claims they wanted to keep the player but that City matched the buy-out clause in the 23-year-old's contract.

The right-sided player is set to have his medical with City and will sign before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

What do you think of Zabaleta and will he be a good signing for City?

I say let corluka go. I like the guy, think he's awesome, but if he wants to go, let him. we don't need a player who doesn't want to give his all. This zabeleta sounds like a decent squad player, waste of money though when we could do with a left back, ball is good, but lacking that little bit of pace

Espanyol website says he has left today to have a medical at city so this should go through. If we're gonna get rid of anyone ireland would be my first choice as Zabaleta can play right mid but can he play centre mid?
Ireland just doesn't do enough for me and if Sunderland wil pay £10m then good bye stevie.

Glauber Berti has signed and is a left back

Good news that with the addition also of Glauber MH agrees with me that you need strength in depth to build the platform where it counts., at the back. No way should we let a quality footballer like Corluka leave and reduce what is looking like a real strong unit.

Looking ominous for Michael Ball and Dunne will have to watch out to, Mark Hughes is creating healthy competition at the back it needed addressing because we were concedeing some very poor goals however Corluka may be going to Spurs now...

What's with all the defenders? I know we had trouble with injuries at the back, but don't you think signing four defenders is a little excessive? We now have:

CB: R Dunne, T Ben Haim, G Berti, V Kompany
CB/RB: V Corluka, M Richards, N Onuoha
LB: M Ball, J Garrido

In addition to Mills, Logan, Williamson, and a couple of other reserves/youth players.

I think that the sheer volume of defenders means that a few players I'm quite keen on will be marginilised, such as Onuoha, and, if we presume Kompany will be played as a DMF, Fernandes

Mark Hughes stated in the MEN, not long ago, that he liked to sign "versatile" players.
He has proven this by buying Kompany who can play defence or midfield, SWP who can play a number of roles, Ben Haim who can play anywhere along the back line if neccessary, and now Zabaleta who it seems can fill a number of roles.
It's the reason why I can't see him letting Corluka go, especially after publically stating that he had convinced him to stay at City.

If he had all this money to spend on 4 defenders why didnt he use it on players who can help the team win more? The one problem i'd say Man City had last season was scoring goals and with not many great options they even had to buy Benjani as a quick-fix to that problem and only bought Jo in this season, is it enough?

SWP was the best signing they made this summer so Hughes should have bought in more players like that.

Very strong and extensive defense now but defenders don't win matches so i predict a lot of low-scoring matches wherever they play this season.
