Dong Fangzhou was a signing by Manchester United's marketing department. They were salivating at the thought of the shirts they might sell in China and Hong Kong if by some miracle Fangzhou made it.

He scored goals for fun...in the Belgian second division. By Chinese standards, he is probably a half-decent player but never at the standard to succeed at a club like Manchester United. Ferguson obviously didn't fancy him from the day he arrived, from that it's pretty clear that it wasn't his buy.

"He did have promise after his lucrative spell at Antwerp, and at £500,000, which is pittance in todays game, was a fair gamble. Plus, marketing in China, where United are hugely popular, must have been a some part of the reason for signing him."

i suppose they made the 500,000 10 times over just from china, now they will get a different chinese player to boost sales there

another example of a big club ruining a kid's career. let this be a warning to all young kids - you're better off proving yourselves at little clubs first, before joining the big guns.

Looooooooool
Even ppl in China knew the boy had no future at Man United. Us Chinese can't play football. I think most ppl know that =D
But yeah... he might fit in at a smaller Premier League like.

Even when we were short up front (Rooney and Saha injured, Tevez unfit, Solskjaer retired, Ronaldo suspended) at the beginning of last season we didn't give him a game. My only memory of him was in the Man Utd Vs World XI game last season. Came on as a sub and missed a sitter. Shame... Hope he goes on to find regular football somewhere. All the best

when someone proves himself and wants a move to a bigger club also fans go on about how there is no loyalty.. if you join a top club straight away also its wrong..

Dong was immense........

Well he was when i signed him on a season long loan at Charlton on football manager. He was a 25 goal a season man.

I just hope West Ham sign him to partner the prolific Carlton Cole
