NancyGetYourRatOut (U9857212) posted Aug 29, 2008 Very well done for getting this far - English media grow up and leave this girl alone and stop piling on the pressure. The media in this country are so so nasty - writing on a paper is such an easy life who watches you? Who criticizes you? No one. Its quite cowardly the way the media behave, but worst of all it gives no incentive to young sports players. Leave this girl alone and only concentrate on her if she gets to a final. It makes me laugh when I hear Sue Barker or John Lloyd criticize - what did you win? nothing of course total failures. Instead of lining your pockets at the BBC why not HELP young players? Think about the future instead of yourselves.

DOlivier2006 (U4534065) posted Aug 30, 2008 to NancyGetYourRatOut - Sue Barker won the French Open in 1976, John Lloyd at least got to the final of the Australian Open in 1977 (losing in 5 sets to Vitas Gerulaitis). I agree that the media is sometimes too harsh, but please do some research before you start ranting.

timeisrelative (U7606324) posted Aug 30, 2008 A good effort from Anne Keothavong, probably the lack of experience told in the end. I hope there's a little more encouragement from the media/public after Anne's performances this year. We're talking gradual shoots of improvement here, but it's something to be positive about surely? Everyone quite rightly got behind the Olympic medal winners, so can we not afford a little support for a player who is trying her hardest to move up the rankings, improve her game, match herself against the top players etc? Anyway, I hope Dementieva holds her nerve and goes on to win it now.
