Post-match thoughts/Ledesma hat-trick

League Cup QPR
comment on the article

Dave M couldn't make it to Loftus Road on Tuesday night - and he missed a bit of a treat.

I'd heard a few whispers about Emmanuel Ledesma but that was the first time I'd seen him for myself - and he does look a bit useful.

I think Carlisle fought well in the first half - and they had the odd sniff of an opening - but Rangers had stacks of chances themselves before the break and completlely took the Cumbrians apart afterwards.

You can't help but be impressed by Parejo but Ledesma is looking the real deal. Quick feet, and an eye for goal. Hungry too.

He did go to ground a bit too easily a couple of times in the first half but once he worked out the ref wasn't going to play ball he got on with things and three superb finishes mean he has four goals in three games.

Blackstock would have played, apparently, but he has got flu. Good for Rangers to show they can score without him though.

All in all, a good night - Carlisle are no mugs either so don't think it was just down to putting lower division opposition to bed.

Dowie and Flowers want a big club in round three but would you prefer a cup run (this is only the second time in 13 seasons that Rangers have reached this stage of the Carling Cup after all)??

Look forward to reading your views on the game, the team selection and how Rangers are looking five games into the season.

I'd take anyone outside the European places, at Loftus Road. I think we'd stand a good chance of carrying on the cup run then. I'm sure we'd make a game of it with any of the top 6 or 7's reserves, but it would be another of Dowie's upsets if we were to progress.

It will be very interesting to see what we do at Ashton Gate on Saturday. Bristol are going great guns again and will be as stern a test as Sheffield United were. I don't expect us to ship 3 goals, but I'd be surprised to come away with a third clean sheet.

Hopefully they are no longer mutually exclusive - I would like a 'Big Club' next round AND a cup run!

Well stated Ashdown_Ranger! I can’t believe there are people who want a cup run at the expence of a BIG team, but then again I was there when we won this thing in 67! Distroying the so called BIG teams on the way. From what I am reading we have a usefull team for once, and who would relish a trip to the Bush? Chelski? Man U? Don’t think so.

Zone1Ranger,

Isn't "loosing to minnows" a criminal offence?

I thought Tim Flowers was spot on with his post-match comments. Have to say I'm impressed with how ID and his staff are going about their business. Refreshing to hear them admit when they get things wrong too, and their plans to rectify matters i.e. Sheffield: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/q/qpr/7584201.stm

While Ledesma etc were absolutely brilliant, I must say that I thought that Parejo didn't have his best night. There were too many passes that went straight from him to a CUFC player. That said, we ended up winning convincingly, but with a little more accuracy, we probably could have had 7+.

I would like to thank Ian Dowie and the coaching staff at Loftus Rd. This has to be the best start we've made to a season for many a moon. I feel confident that we'll be able to beat most of our opponents this season, and because of that, I feel promotion, and a good cup run, aren't the impossible dreams they were this time last year.

Really sorry DavidM missed Tuesday's game - it was a cracker! Best team performance since the 3-0 win over Stoke last season, and arguably the best display of natural football flair I'd ever seen at Loftus Road. Awesome!

Like many other long suffering R's fans, I don't get excited when there is much hype around, but I came away from the game on Tues with a tingling sensation. I haven't had that feeling since the mid 70's. We are now onto something really big.

However, I think the squad is still gelling. Let's have a Prem club in the 4th round.

Looking forward to the villa game but, it's the biggest test we've had so far, since the change. If we can get a result here, I really think we can do it this season. I'm not interested in winning the league cup, I just want us to put in a good performance. I live in hope. Come on the R's.
