Can Poulter qualify with top 4 finish

A lot of people have been saying what an idiot Ian Poulter is for not playing this week on the europeantour. I had a look at the world points list and it shows that Ian is 21 or so points behind Robert Karlsson. If he was to finish in the top 4 this week in the states this is worth more than 21 world ranking points and he would jump above Karlsson. Therefore he would quality for the Ryder Cup. So does he still have a chance, an outside chance.

1 Padraig HARRINGTON 343.03
2 Sergio GARCIA 278.46
3 Lee WESTWOOD 266.18
4 Henrik STENSON 245.13
5 Robert KARLSSON 204.76
6 Miguel Angel JIMÉNEZ 202.35
7 Justin ROSE 188.35
8 Ian POULTER 183.37
9 Graeme MCDOWELL 175.81
10 Martin KAYMER 152.17

The anti-Poulter brigade are being pretty vocal at the moment. Hypocrites. How can you say Poulter is undeserved of a wild card pick because he's chosen to give Gleneagles a miss? As stated above, he could have qualified via the world list on a good performance, so he hadn't chosen to rely on a wild card pick. Casey too, also chose to play in the States, yet people find this ok because he hasn't played well/ consistently over the past year to even be in the reckoning for an automatic choice. Do me a favour, Poulter has been one of the most consistent performers on both Tours (look at his standings in both Euro and World lists) and fully deserving of a wild card. Clarke and Monty have shined once this season, and are unable to put in strong performances at Gleneages. Yes Poulter missed the cut last night, so did Casey by the way, but this was in a restricted field due to the Fedex. My votes would be for Poulter and Petterson no doubt offending the anti US Tour element, yet clearly two of the best Europeans we have not already in the team.

He should pick Rory McIlroy & Oliver Fisher.

Europe will win it whoever the wildcards are.

Monty has a complex, he's a big baby and should get over himself... Poulter and Casey are good picks.

Few comments on the pick,

1.Montgomery has played in the Ryder Cup team 8 times; Poulter has not half as many times!
2.Montgomery’s has never lost a Ryder cup singles match in 8 appearances.
3.Montgomery’s win-lose-draw record of 20-9-7, contributing points tally of 23.5 (2nd best in Ryder Cup history), Poulter has contributed 1 point in 1 appearance.
4.Guess who has the most points in Ryder cup history with 25? Of course it's Nick Faldo funnily enough, I bet Mr. Faldo would have liked Montgomery to break that record but alas he did not pick him and we will never know!

In my opinion the USA team will be happy that Poulter was picked, Montgomery based on history would of been a problem!

Lets be honest about this shall we. First off regarding the decision not to play.

Poulter would have had to finish 3rd I believe to qualify in the Johnny Walker, had he finished in the top 4 in the tournament he chose to play in he would also have qualified. How is that giving up?

Secodnly Monty should have kept quiet and dignified, he has now come accross as a past-it grumpy old man by making the unwarrented comments that he did.

Thirdly the two best players have been picked. Yes having Clarke and Monty's experience would have been good but in the end the best players should make it in. If Monty wants to contribute then let him go along with the team and offer his experience from the sidelines and dressing rooms. Bet he wont

As things stood last Thursday, a fifth place at gleneagles could've been enough for poulter to get the final ryder spot. the tournament he chose to play in didn't count towards points. That's either giving up - or knowing something the rest of us didn't.

If the former, then he was putting himself firmly ahead of the ryder cup - hardly a great team attitude. If the latter, then faldo's a muppet. He surely knew that clarke would be a better prospect than wilson and getting poulter into tenth spot ahead of wilson could've freed up a wildcard spot for darren. and if poulter's as good under pressure as his fans here make out, then surely fifth would've been well within his capabilities.

and as for his ability under pressure, don't give me that "oh he made a great putt at the 18th in the open to almost win it" rubbish. he was in with a great shout of winning it on 17 till he three-putted there; he then left his second at the 18 about two clubs short and his chip on to the green was a mile off target. totally bottled it. handed it to padraig.

manof i agree abourt the 3 putt

but everyone else around were dropping like flies- out of the field poulter was the only challenger and still made the final putt(NO ONE ELSE COMPETED THAT FINAL DAY LIKE poulter apart from poddy who was superior)- in his mind and many others that was for the tie

then poddy who has allready won one major (humdred times less pressure)pulled it out(with alucky one at 17 that 1 foot short would have been in the bunker) got a downward kick and eagle time!
