International Leinster

Quote from Leinster rubgy website:

"Leinster Rugby are delighted to announce the appointment of Leo Cullen as captain of the province for the coming year.

Leo will replace Brian O’Driscoll who has decided to step down having captained Leinster for three years culminating in the Magners League title success last season.

Cullen led the province on seven occasions last year since his return from the Leicester Tigers in the summer of 2007.

The Newtownmountkennedy man has made 102 appearances in two spells for the province (17 in total as captain) between 2003 and 2008.

Having been a part of last year’s leadership team, this appointment ensures continuity and Cullen will be joined by SHANE JENNINGS and Chris Whitaker who have been named as vice captains."

Well, well, well. Would ye credit that lads? That fella Gibson is talking out of his hat!. Maybe not so much now! It's only a matter of time... ;-)

Mickado,
I "predict" that you will score big-time in Copper-Faced Jacks next Sat. night. Ye probably always do winkeye

Seriously mate. What do you think of it? I really wonder is it all tied in with Ireland now - when they take provincial decisions. Has to be, eh?

First Kidney says on BOD - "he'll discuss it" for Ireland. Now this at Leinster. Cullen & Jennings shared a few Captaincies at Leicester. Something’s afoot Mickado, methinks. Kidney & Gaffney will have thought long & hard about this one, I reckon. I can see POC getting it and Shane backing him up leading towards the WC. A wee "apprenticeship" for our Shane under the European Cup winning Captain. Now, that would be a sound plan to me.

Then again. It could be all bollix.

Gibson,
Do you wonder why Shane wasn't made captain of Leinster?

That's easy Fullpoint,
He's was Cullens' "oppo" at Leicester. They both "captained" there .. and they obviously flipped a coin for it at Leinster. Leo won. winkeye

Jennings will captain Ireland long before Leo ever does. If ever. The Vice-captaincy is preparation, imo. Gaffney is probably behind it. Jennings has been groomed for this.

Ha! I don’t know anyone called “big time” but I’ve nearly done some time for not asking the right questions in Coppers! I feel that now it is my destiny to go there now, after the Leinster v Reds game and all, ooooohh what a crackin Saturday that’ll be!

There’s a stirring going on alright, I think it’s all for the good though, onwards and upwards. If BOD can find his form again then it won’t bother him/me/you/ me ma if he’s captain or not, because he’ll more often than not be on the winning side! I’ve always felt that the captain should be a pack member – back row preferably – No. 8 ideally.

Slightly off the topic, what about the dubs – we were destroyed!! I can’t get away from the slagging, I’m working in a suburb of Prague for the week, stood outside the place having a laugh and joke wearing my jersey (83 vintage) and some langer walking by shouts – “ye we crap last week booooy”. I couldn’t think of a clever response I was that shocked!!!

Mickado,
Re the Dubs. Yeah. I was in a pub in Amsterdam with a fec load of Tyrone and Armagh "tourists" Most of them were wimmin and were well nice - as were most of the Tyrone lads on their own. But a few of them were gettin a bit "tasty" when they started to thrash us on the field. We walked outside when it got verbally vicious - to save fights breaking out, basically. Things like "put the Fenians down" and "send the Irish home" kind of got to me and my Bro. As did the score. He's a big GAA man and said that had they done it in a Dublin local .. well ... u can imagine. ;-(

These things were being said by "supposed" Irish people in an Irish pub. Have not seen or heard the likes of that for so long. I don't want to see it again. I wouldn't mind, but it was MY local pub! Don't think they'll be welcome again. In fact - I know they won't be allowed to gather in those kind of of numbers again in our pub. Shame really. Most of them were totally grand people and were emabarassed as hell at the antics of the hardcore few.

We were shoite and seemed to collectively melt - when Brogan went off early on. They (Tyrone) - were so up for it - they were never going to let it go. Ah well. Next year Mickado. Next year.

Enjoy the Reds game on Sat mate. Are ye going to wear sumting green for Green Day ..and going to the match on your rothair?? smiley

Can't wait for the ML kickoff.. bring it on!

P.S. Did you see CJ and Elsom are both in for citations after the SA v Oz game ? CJ could go down till Christmas, I'd say. It was bad. Verry bad. Not so much a headbutt .. more of an attempted decapitation. Elsom hit Matfield in mid-air. Won't be so bad. A few weeks maybe. Hard beggars eh? Still. I despair ...

That's muck gibbo, i mean that's the antics that Man U and Liverpool fans are supposed to go on with, awful to see it creeping into the GAA realm, but like you say, if it was in Dublin, especially my local "the flying bottle" there would have been holy jihad! It's one of the things that i always tell newcomers to the game, there's no hassle and the fans mix and have a jar together.

Feic green day, i'll nay take the rothair but i'll shanks mare it out from town i'd say - i'm plenty green enough as it is winkeye

Heard about CJ alright didn't see it, i was laid up in the scratcher for the WE with a pox of some variety. Good news that it's only 4 weeks, he hasn't even played a game yet but he'd be a big loss (howz dat den?).

Yeah looking forward to the start of the season alot more since the dubs summer is over sadface

Leinster by the grace of BOD! smiley
