"The Baggies supporter's comments would still be worth little even if they were written in grammatical English..."

Let's see about that then, shall we? Firstly, I don't see how you can go as far as to say that your opposition's opinion means little when Albion fans can say the same about your opinions.

That aside, I was at the game and I believe that Albion dominated the first half as well as much of the first half. You Evertonians may well put this down to your side being understrength - which may well have been a major contributing factor. However, I think it was mostly our fluency in possession that gave us such dominance for much of the game, but we then lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Fair play to you though. Where we couldn't finish off the game, you punished us with two sucker punches (albeit against the run of play, but never mind lol) and I guess that that's what we've missed during our two year exile from the Premier League.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Let's hope that us Baggies can pay you back for this disappointing loss at Goodison. smiley

Well, you're gracious in defeat baggiejim, and I'd have to agree to your assessment of you're dominance. I wasn't at the game as I had to work this morning, but listened to the full 90 on the radio.

But what you're overlooking is the thing that we (EFC) fans overlooked for years as we searched for some consistency, through the pre-Moyes years. I speak as someone who has followed the blues from the 60's, and my father before that and his father before him.

We would often play well against good teams when we weren't so good ourselves. We rarely won the games, but we'd often play well. We all sat in the pub afterwards and talked about the chances we should have taken.

Then we started, over the course of a couple of seasons, to match the better teams consistently, and then we started to win a few. It's a long slow process. We're not through it yet, but we're most of the way there. Although we need the players we're after and lost a soft win at home on the opening day, we haven't become a bad team overnight. We're stretched, and we were always on a hiding to nothing coming to a promoted team so ealy in the season. However, as you rightly point out, you didn't score, but we did, and then we went on to win the game.

We ARE a decent team now. We desperately need the signings that we seek. But we are still the team that have looked most likely to break into the top four in recent years. Don't write a consistently good team off because right at this moment we dont look like world beaters.

And if you say that consitency is short lived, if you look at our history, we have more years in the highest level of football available than any other team in the world.

Not a bad record, mate?

Good luck to the baggies this season. Although it may surprise some of the younger fans who read this, I do believe WBA to be one of the sleeping giants.

But do bear in mind, EFC is one of the giants who never slept. We may not always have challenged for the top prize, but we never gave up the fight.

lesdyxic - I agree with all your points. Sometimes, it takes more than just pretty football (i.e. what we now try to play) to gain results. That's been shown today by you Toffees been very efficient in front of goal to get a result. David Moyes has done an excellent job for you I feel, especially with your academy kids coming through too today. smiley

I'm only very young at the moment (17 years young to be precise lol) but I have heard enough stories from older Albion fans like my dad and others to know that you truly mean what you say about us being sleeping giants. Our past few seasons in the Prem were frankly embarassing as we played negatively under Megson and Robson, but with Mowbray in charge now, I believe that we have as good a chance as any to awaken from that slumber. We play some lovely footie under this man, but as you say consistency will also be key as demonstrated by Everton.

Thanks for the kind words about Albion and I wish you best of luck this season too. smiley

I also forgot to add that I have heard all about the days when we were a top team like Everton are now. When we had Cyrille Regis, Laurie Cunningham and the like in our team. Many Albion fans who witnessed those days are of the opinion that if we play the way we are currently, those good times could be coming back to the Hawthorns.

Like I said, best of luck to you Toffees for the rest of the season. I agree that consistency is key. And once you have all your players back, you'll most probably have that in abundance. (Y)

I agree Moyes is looking glum, but I don't think he'll go.

I'm thinking back to the late Jeff Astle, you had a good team in those days, although football was much more even in those days (certainly from a financial point of view).

Anyhow, I genuinely wish you well. And Stoke too, nice to see the re-emergence of big old teams.

What a load of utter rubbish the Everton side are, we are just into the prem, putting a new team together, yet the 'established' Everton could only 'hang on' to a narrow win. Baggies will survive but Everton will not make the top 16.

West Brom made a mistake letting Phillips go. He could be the difference to them going down and staying up.

Fierymoose, wake up and smell the coffee.

You may survive, with a lot of luck, but that's only a 'maybe'. We will be top half, I'm hoping top 6. That's pretty much a forgone.

The problem is, Saturday was one of your best games, and one of our worst. And we still won, and for all your possession, we were comfortable. A dodgy penalty aside, how many times was Howard troubled?

This is the real world Moose, you're just the newbies, judge us at the end of the season if you're still in our league. Don't forget that no-one has more years in top flight football than Everton.
