Arkle 4 out of the last 5 Irish Champion Stakes have been run on Good To Firm. All I'm pointing out is there is no guarantee of soft ground.

Arkle, what I don't understand is howcome there can be excuses for one horse and not another?? I'll give you an example, Kauto Star got beat in his last race by Our Vic. I certainly think the horse was below his best, my personal opinion is that come the 5th/6th run of Kauto's "season" he is not quite tip top as he is around Christmas time. Or the defeat to Monet's Garden over an inadequate trip. I think Kauto Star is a fantastic horse and excuses can be made for his defeats, however you had none of it and these defeats to you showed he was by no means a great horse. I don't understand now why excuses can be made for one horse, New Approach, and not another. For what it's worth I do believe that New Approach is a horse who is still capable of very good things if all things go his way, as I do Kauto Star

Dick......Are YOU SURE you were a Racing Journalist in the 60's ???

So a 2nd prize money purse of 54000 pounds isn't worth going for eh ??

Please do not be under the impression that New Approach ran to his BEST possible performance today because ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about Racing would confirm that was not the case !!

He missed out on 2nd place prize money, picking up 27000 pounds for third instead....though at least he had a go at it....as Jim Bolger said AFTER the race...at Leopardstown in the Irish Champion Stakes you will see a DIFFERENT horse and he is looking forward to the rematch.

From what I saw on the ground today....so am I !!

Yes and I forgot, Sheik Mohammed was hard up and desperate for £27,000!!!

Just for all who don't know much about Sheik Mohammed's wealth, here's a link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_bin_Rashid_Al_Maktoum

He's worth just the $16 billion and has recently bought Woodlands Stud, in the process creating Darley Australia.

Where are all you New Approach fans coming from? Immediately after the Derby i stated on here that New Approach was a very mediocre horse. The Derby was won in a virtual snail pace time, more than 4 seconds outside the record, now he has been well and truely beaten, plus the Derby form is a shambles, how does that make a fine/great horse? Are you watching racing from " Luckskin Downs" ?

Poppy....YOU must be the expert on Lucksin Downs etc IF you can not appreciate a horses' TRUE ability.

I suggest you read my reply on the thread about the 2008 Derby, whereupon someone is also TRYING to belittle the achievements of New Approach !!
