Yup, he's looking at staying with Renault.

The only thing you can say about Alonso is...
At some point in the future he MAY drive for a team that isn't Renault!

I agree 100% with auto, a one year contract would do nothing for his image around the pits. He just needs to hope that some Italian wunderkind doesn't show up on the F1 circuit and takes Ferrari's attention away.

I liked this bit..

"I will concentrate in the next three or four races on our crucial fight with Toyota. We will throw everything into the track to try to beat them.”

and if you can't beat em join em?

And people berated Button for contractual jiggery pokery.

He pulls out of a 3 year deal after just 1 year because he can't beat a rookie. Then looks to dump the team that saved his bacon and angles to blag a drive in the red team. In my opinion the guy's a snake, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could spit him.

My take on his angling for a Ferrari drive is that if Ferrari take on Alonso it is the biggest mistake they will make. Although I'd love to see his face if his team mate turns out to be none other than Kimi!

I thought we were about to have a decent thread on Alonso without unsubstantiated statements like "backstabber" and "pulled out of a deal when he couldn't beat a rookie". Unfortunatley it couldn't last. I am sure then next posting will involve the words pram, toys and throw!

As far as I can tell Alonso has been up front, direct and honest with whoever he has dealt with. He spoke straight to Ron Dennis for example and didn't go behind anybodys back or make idle threats to the press. He also never made any long term promises to Renault.

Hamilton made the first move remember! What would you do? I know I would be furious.

He didn't pull out of his deal with McLaren. It was an amicable agreement. McLaren didn't want him to stay either. If you are looking for anybody to lay blame on then try Dennis. It all comes down to his failure to manage his drivers properly.

Ross Brawn and Fernando Alonso would be the perfect partnership. However, it has to be a long deal.

With Button and Barichello looking to keep their seats wouldn't it be improper of FA to talk publicly about it?

I think he has made the reight decision to play it down in the meantime. Although, I don't doubt for a second Honda and Alonso are talking!

Raikkonnen will retire at the end of the season. He is spent and no longer in love with the sport.

Massa and Alonso at Ferrari next year.

Kimi MAY retire at the end of the season. He may be out of love with F1 but spent? Not a bit of it. Drivers of his calibre are far too rare. Kimi is a racing driver born and bred. If Kimi leaves F1 it will be to try his hand at another driving discipline, not to walk away from motorsport.

Personally i'm not in favour of alonso at all after his babyish behaviour last year with McLaren, he may have felt sidelined due to the arrival of hamilton, but there was no need to behave so unprofessionally, Honda are drastically underachieving and if is anyone is to be replaced it'll be out-of-luck Button, that is if Barrechelo doesn't announce his retirement soon.

If Honda replace Jenson that would be the most serious kick in the teeth. Jenson has shown total loyalty and commitment to Honda and they have repaid him with two of the worst cars I have seen for many a year from a team with their budget. To replace him now would be a hammer blow to his career and a very cruel way to treat their greatest asset.

One hopes the major teams are on alert...
