Cisse set for Sunderland

Premier League Sunderland
comment on the article

Apologies if this has already been announced by someone on 606 but i think this will be a great signing for us if we pull it off, even if it is just a loan.

Marseille have confirmed that there is an 'agreement in principle' for Djibril Cisse to join Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.

Former Liverpool striker Cisse has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League over the summer.

Bolton Wanderers were mooted as suitors of the France international, but he is now set for a move to the Stadium of Light.

The French club's chairman Pape Diouf has revealed that there is a deal in place for Cisse to spend the season with Roy Keane's side.

Details to be sorted
"An agreement in principle has been reached between OM and Sunderland for the loan of Djibril Cisse to the English club until the end of the season," Diouf told the club's official website.

"Some details still need to be sorted out ahead of the confirmation of the loan."

Black Cats boss Keane revealed earlier on Wednesday that he was hoping to bring in more new signings within the next 48 hours.

Keane had agreed deals for three players, and was also aiming to land a fourth, with Cisse the first of those set to arrive in the North East.

Cisse has spent the past two years at Marseille after originally joining the club on loan following an injury-hit stint at Liverpool.

Definately better than the likes of Chopra, Murphy and Stokes although i do like them. Cisse and Kenwyne could fire us up the league!

A brilliant signing for Sunderland. I think its all down to the respect Keane has from other players.

Cisse and Jones will be a mouthwatering attacking line when they are both fit.

Fantastic coup for Sunderland, if he stays fit. We had him at Liverpool for a few seasons and unfortunately never got to see the best of him due to two really bad injuries, but hopefully he'll keep fit.

Partnering him with David Healy and Kenwyne Jones would be an exciting prospect as they've all got bags of goals in them. It's just matter of getting the likes of Diouf, Malbranque and Tainio to settle into your midfield and wide positions now.

Some really impressive signings from Roy Keane so far this summer and Sunderland now look like a team with a bit of strength in depth. You gave us a good game last week and we were lucky to come away with a win. But we need to win games like that if we're to challenge for the title.

I predict Sunderland will finish in the top 10 this season, if this team gels well.

Sorry Roy, it's not Seamus O'Cisse.

Ah, I wondered what on earth I was reading there for a minute, but a small amount of research reveals that supadupacushty is a Newcastle United "supporter". That explains everything.

sunderland is well known for having a large amount of right wing and racist supports. which is why the bnp can get away with promoting at the stadium. anyway, over the last few seasons sunderland have been acquiring more and more black players. i wonder what the hardcore supporters think?

What? I must have missed that, having gone to SOL on away games. None of my lot saw anything like that, not that that means it isnt or did happen but I'm sure we would have heard or sensed it. So significant this 'bnp' recruiting that the fans cheer on their players regardless, havent heard of any racist chanting nor sympathetic racist overtones either. Why talk such rubbish, it makes you feel much better?

From supadupacushty:

"9 mill is good money! also get rid of alan smith and try and flog barton. ok we have few players as it is, but id rather we got rid of trouble and rubbish (smith and barton) and it makes good business sense selling milner for 9 mill. also, i do believe a smaller squad will gell better as we have been lacking a togetherness for a good few seasons. having got rid of rubbish and sorted the finances out - then slowely look to add real quality and NOT panick but as we have for the last few seasons just to satisfy supporters and hope to work miracles! a team spirit and togetherness needs to exist to add quality to - else its just a waste. the toon supporters need to be patient!!! please remember - its only keegans first pre season!!!"

No bias against Sunderland, no?

A winner at WHL after coming on as a sub.

I take this as a start for Cisse, building up his confidence.
