why would iy to difficult just to hold a match at somewhere where the rain is not due to fall and let people turn up and pay at the gate. i could never understand why when a 5 day test finishes in 4 days they just dont play a 1 day match for the crowd and give some value for money. after all that is what they do at the snooker when it finishes a session early . they don't p**s the spectators off.

Which part of England with an international ground can guarantee fine weather, sufficient policing, stewarding, parking and catering?

Right I think i ahve soemthing off the point to say to CJCD74
The north East of England, therefore the town of chester le street, is situated in the shadow of the Pennines and therefore reserves LESS rain then "the south" as you put it.
Furthermoor, the norht east has a lower advradge rainfall that Cardiff i.e. the "south" of englan i.e. you have been owned
In other words, this is england so wherever you play crickett there will be rain.
Please talk about "the north" correctly or in your case not at all thanks smiley

With this game being cancelled, does it still count, in terms of Collingwood's 4 match ban? or will he now miss the second ODI as well?

In reply to ItsBadger's comment, because Chester-Le-Street isn't in Newcastle, so why would you blame Geordies? That would be like blaming Brummies for bad weather in Wales.

And to CJCD74 - why shouldn't the North East get England games? It's unfair on the fans to expect them to travel to London to be able to see a game. Yes it's unfortunate that it's been rained off, but look at the news, quite a few places in England is raining at the moment.

Londis - "Cardiff, ie the south of England" ?
Try saying that in a Cardiff pub on a Saturday night!

Britain is a wet place. But lets face it, Old Trafford, Headingly, Cardiff, and Bristol, due to prevailing westerlies, have above average rainfall. This fact alone should preclude them from staging any important events.

Londis -- my comment was based on that of some DURHAM supporters who a few weeks ago were saying that the the farcial game against kent was unfortunate but it happened as it rains a lot in that part of the world and therfore Durham should not be punished for the pitch that saw a game end in 7 sessions just because it rains a lot there. Therefore if it rains a lot there, maybe (just maybe)going on (some) of Durham's own supporters views it would not be best placed for a game of stature at that time of year. And by the way where did I say I think games should happen in London or anywhere else???

Durham annually receives only just more than half the rainfall of Cardiff. I agree that it was a great decision to cancel so early and save a lot of time and money.
