kristiansw4 (U12731927) posted Aug 22, 2008 Looking at Bally and Mel's final round opponets they should start as favourites, with Bally playing Julie Coin of France and Mel plays Zhang of China, but as we know the final round of qualifying is always the hardest, lets hope they win! Anne K faces a qualifier in rnd 1 lets hope its not Bally or Mel if they qualify.

The women in particular look like they would have more success in a certain Japanese activity. It may be a sensitive point but it is fact, if you are carrying *excess* fat, it will make you slower to move and your endurance will be affected. It demonstrates to me, a lack of management from the coaches and a lack of desire from the players.

prasinethee (U9714235) posted Aug 22, 2008 make that 0 qualifiers for the men. this is extremely dissapointing once again. If next year muuray as is probabaly going to be the case is fighting to get into the top 3, his packed schedule will require some sacrifices and that might well be a good reason to forfeit the davis cup.He cannot keep on pulling the team through and they cannot rely on him forever. a serious shakeup is needed of men's tennis in the UK. women's tennis is faring much better at the moment and our young hopefuls are there or thereabouts.

kristiansw4 (U12731927) posted Aug 23, 2008 Yes disappointing Bally had a 4-1 lead in the final set and Coin is ranked 188 in the world, Bally was very unlucky, Mel should have won and lost tamely, its disappointing but Bally appears to be finding the form she used to have and Mel just needs to have more confidence. I am sure both girls will learn from this and qualify for the Australian Open.

chimiratastic (U650472) posted Aug 23, 2008 Sorry, losing from 4-1 and a double break is not "unlucky". It's called choking. Baltacha has been around so long it's clear she hasn't got what it takes. Time to find something else more useful to do with her life.

kristiansw4 (U12731927) posted Aug 23, 2008 Ok I agree 4-1 is a choker but final round qualifying is always tougher but I see your point but Baltacha's career has been plagued by injury so its not all her fault but she did not take her chances I agree. I think South is overall a better player and I am surprised she lost so tamely, I think South probarly has the better chance to breaking the 100. Anne K needs to take advantage of facing a qualifer in round one and win her first match. That gap from 140 into 100 is tough though.

kristiansw4 (U12731927) posted Aug 23, 2008 Looking ahead to the main draw, Anne Keovathong has a relly good chance to reach the second round against Alexa Glatch of the US, lets hope she does not lose because qualifiers are dangerous and Anne has not played well this summer and after Bally and Mel lost we need Anne to push ahead and win this match. Andy Murray still seems to be as unpopular as ever and will never have the following Henman had yet he will probarly end up being a better player. Comment on this article |
