Wakefield head coach John Kear has hit out at criticism of his side and insists their season has not been a disappointment to him.

The Wildcats lie eighth in Super League after losing their last eight matches, including the Challenge Cup semi-final.

"It irritates me when people say that it has all gone wrong," Kear told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I'm very satisfied how we've played this season, the problem is expectations have gone too high."

Is he right ?

Wakefield are in SL next season. If I were a Wakefield fan, I'd be happy with that alone.

Genuine fans are happy when they see their team making progress, no matter how slow.

Unfortunately for Wakey fans the last few weeks have shown the team going backwards - fast.

Kear can't be happy with how we are ending the season and he is putting on gloss on things by saying we should be happy with the season as a whole.

I think Huddersfield fans would be happier seeing their team finish the season strongly, at least it gives hope for next year.

i think thepoint is that we are making progress, yes the end of season form has been shocking but as i said its about blancing long and shortterm, and in the longer run i realy feel the club is, in most areas, making progress dont be blinded by the short term dip the trend is still on the up

For me the measure of progress is that each season we get more points than the previous one.
Even an additional 1 point per season is progress for a club like Wakefiled with limited resource.
This season we currently have 20 points and not much hope of adding to this from last 2 games.
Last year I think we got 22?

Ithought the point of playing was to try and win,not be happy with second best.trinity should have done better in the latter part of the season and if Mr Kear is happy with the team at the moment then it beggers belive.Isaid after the away game at HKR it would be hard to win in the remaining games. There seams to be a problem so sort it Mr Kear please.

I agree the point of playing is to win not be happy with second best, but surely that has to be matched with realism, are you seriously saying wakefield are going to compete over a season with saints and leeds? i would love to say yes but reality is clerly no.

if you liisten to the whole kear interview i think he hits the nail on the head, he does not say he is happy with how the team are playing now, he essentially says the season hasnt been a disaster and the big problem was the raising the expectations by over acheving in early season which i think is spot on.

its important to be ambitious but it has to be done sensibly and realisticly, the club is building on a solid financial base (contary to the crazy rumours on here) fantastic community work, an improving academy, and a first team built around young british talent.

this does not mean we stop and sit back but it also doesnt mean we take daftknee jerk reactions, keep building, bringing through the youngsters and adding experience and talent where you can.

thats the way i wouldgo but i accept for many this wont be good enough

Think Jk talks alot of common sense mixed in with a bit of bulls**t., perhaps to protect the players who lets be honest have been underperforing recently (especially as refered to in the Cas match)

He can't be happy with so many straight defeats, yet I don't think he turns up to work each day thinking he won't put a full days work in.

He's the best option we have got IMO and getting confidence back in the team won't be easy since they have got so used to losing. But thats his job so he has to get it sorted.

Was at he JJB on Friday and when we went level thought we might sneak it but poor decisions and not being used to winning / wanting to win hampered us.

Lot better than recent efforts, lets put in 100% against Cats & Rhinos in two games left.

Who knows we mighht even win Headingley Nines !!!

JK is right, when we look at the season as a whole, we haven't done bad really, However when the team are playing well they get the full support from the fans (and god knows the Wakey fans are a tough bunch to please, ask any referee) so when things are not going so well they must accept and expect some critisism.

I went over to the JJB last Friday and came away quite pleased with the effort and performance that the team put in, I got value for money, but before this I watched the Trin against Cas and basically Wakey did not put the effort in and Cas deserved the win - no matter what the idiot fringe of wildcats fans in the corner think!!!

We should get behind the team, but, if you read this JK, you've got to give us something to support, you have nothing but the full backing of the fans when you try your hardest!

Kear thrives on mediocrity that's why he's happy. And that's why he could never be truly successful at a top club.

Do you think getting to the Challenge Cup Semi actually hampered your season? I mean had you lost your quarter final and had only the Play Offs to aim for might you have maintained your form over the run in. It seems to so much emphasis went on that one match and at one point this season you seemed to be making good progress.

As for Kear I'm sure what he says in public is very different to what he says to the players behind closed doors - name a super league coach who consistently comes out and says it like it is? It's all politics and spin these days.

As for what Wakefield are capable of in super league I believe the ceiling would be regularly challenging for the play offs, I can't see them as a regular top four side though, personally I think this season is at bad as it will get for Bradford, the top three could well stay that way next season, a lot depends on how the Dragons find life after Potter and Wigan and Warrington are stronger even considering their inconsistency.

I think this season has been a strange one with the franchise saga hanging over certain clubs and the fact that clubs like Cas and Wakefield have three years to strengthen their position on and off the field can only be to their long term benefit. It won't be long before end of season gloom is replaced by optimism for the coming season - hopefully on the back of a successful World Cup.
