Brett and The Jets

comment on the article

While the Beijing Olympics in 2008 ate continuing and the NFL [National Football League] is beginning its season, we have witnessed the signing of Brett Favre with the New York Jets. The same Brett Favre who promised that he would retire with dignity after his last season with the Green Bay Packers.

In my opinion, retirement means sitting back, relaxing, and being a mentor to future generations of American Football Players. Brett Favre had my respect when he announced his retirement in the beginning of 2008 [or the end of the 2007-2008 NFL American Football Season. I imagined a Brett Favre with the generous amount of retirement money mentoring future American Footballers in Universities, Schools, and even in the Green Bay Packer Building. I also imagined Brett Favre enjoying time with his family. After all, he left his mark in the history of the Green Bay Packers.

Brett Favre threw everything away when he signed with the New York Jets. Brett Favre allowed his pride and desire for more fame, money, and glory to take over his brain as he committed professional suicide with his alliance with the New York Jets. While money talks, it cannot guarantee that Brett Favre will have a great era and time with the New York Jets compared with the Green Bay Packers. I am already imagining Vince Lombardi turning over in his grave at such a public display of treason for money.

Brett Favre has also thrown away his pride, dignity, and self respect. Brett Favre is also risking his health. When an American Football Player reaches a certain age, he should learn how to retire gracefully. Brett Favre could have been a Sports Reporter for the Affiliates in the United States of America such as CBS, NBC, ABC, or FOX at the opening of the NFL Coverage. Unfortunatly, Brett Favre has committed professional suicide.

I've just read back on some of FloridaRoberto62's previous posts on a variety of subjects across 606. On each one he has been more or less savaged by everyone with an intense vitriol usually reserved in my heart for Manchester United fans, Barry Bonds, and the Conservative Party. Surely there is not a single more misguided and unbalanced writer on 606?

The search is on people- let's find somebody worse than FloridaRoberto62!

Quality! hahaha.
But seriously, Favre has been starting at QB week in week out for so long now, it's obvious that he can't just leave it behind and walk away from the game.
The simple fact of the matter is that he wasn't ready to retire. I'm not defending him, i think he put GB and Rodgers in a really awkward situation after they had already moved on from the Brett Favre era.
In the end though i think it's all worked out for the best, however your attack on one of the best QBs to play the game is pretty poor.

The assumption that Favre's decision to un-retire was fuelled by money is well off the mark IMO. Such a claim sounds a bit ridiculous when you consider that Favre rejected a $20 million offer by the Packers to stay retired during the whole fiasco.

You said that Favre signing for the Jets has meant that he has thrown away the chance to mentor future football players & donate to good causes. How did you work that one out??!! Although such plans may be on hold for now, he will have the opportunity to do so when he retires. Plus, it is reported that the Packers & Favre have drawn up proposals for him to have a role within the franchise when he retires, so he certainly hasn't thrown away that chance. Even though this whole soap opera has been a less than ideal end to Favre's career with the Packers, I don't think it has done much to tarnish his reputation in Green Bay. He will always be treated & remembered as a legend there. The Packers GM & HC on the other hand have put their repuations squarely on the shoulders of Aaron Rodgers, if he fails, things could get nasty in Green Bay.

I think its fairly obvious now that Favre un-retired simply because he loves playing football & he found it hard to walk away from the game. Also, how about seeing how Favre's time career with the Jets plays out before claiming that he's lost his "pride, dignity & self respect".

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, they are even entitle dto justify their opinion.

But this is just so bad on so many levels you have to wonder if teh writer is just to create controversy and to seek attention.

I wonder if he said the same stuff when Michael Jordan came out of retirement for the Bulls?

Man, what a weird post. This is proof that maybe everyone shouldn't be entitled to an opinion!

To call someone an imbecile is not constructive criticism.
