Looks like I'm the first to post WELL DONE LOUIS SMITH!!!!

Britain's first gymnastics medal in 80 years, the first individual medal in 100 years.

Fantastic! You did us proud!

Can't wait to see him on home turf in 4 years time!

I'm old enough to be Louis mother and I just imagine how proud his parents must be feeling right now of him.

Well done young man I hope you manage to inspire people like you to enjoy such a wonderful and healthy sport as gymnastic is.

I am so pleased we have won a medal for the gymnastics, what a fantastic achievement for Louis Smith. We may have won alot of golds and silvers over the last few days but like someone else has already said, this medal for me made me the proudest being the gymnastics fan I am ! So please for Louis and hoping Beth Tweddle can do the same for us on the bars today xxxxxxx

Quite agree with all the previous posts.

Well done to Louis Smith. He sums up what the Olympics is all about - competing at your best, winning a medal but being a normal guy rather than a pampered, preening "professional"!

Typical anti-British cynic in keizo-Yamata. As soon as any of these people have any success whatsoever, it's either nowhere near enough to satisfy the armchair critics, or their confidence - the same confidence that earned them their stripes in the first place - is 'arrogance'. It's happened with Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton, and upteen others and it's getting beyond a joke.

The ultimate irony is, while these immensely-talented people are giving dignified interviews and coming across as professionals with the odd moment of fire that is completely misread, those criticising them are doing absolutely nothing to enhance the sport and have no experience whatsoever and never will because they can't be bothered to even try. So really, who's the more arrogant? At least the athletes would have the right to be.

Well done Louis Smith, you did yourself proud and you have a long way to go at the age of just 18.
