Well done Essex in what turned out to be a comfortable win in the end, although with 4 wickets down and 94 on the board it looked to be a closer game at one point. Flower made the difference with a splendid innings and must be man of the match.
Kent shot themselves in the foot with at least three batsmen getting themselves out when they had just come in and Kemp did it yet again. Surely he must be dropped. Extras yet again, 22 or thereabouts gifted Essex another batsmen!
Essex wanted to win this more than Kent I think on the day.

Best team won very simply. Even Rob Key said Kent batted appallingly. They did manage to dig themselves out of a hole they got themselves into by some poor shot selection and then make a game of it but Kent were short some 30 runs to make a real game of it.

The radio Essex commentators also mentioned something like 11 no balls bowled by Kent, compared to 1 from Essex. Perhaps this just added to the downfall of Rob Key's team.

Only two no-balls from Kent in fact, but it didn't help. Essex's discipline with the ball was remarkable - not a single wide! Compare that to the days when Sajid Mahmood and Liam Plunkett shared the new ball for England in ODIs...

Good article. Thought the batting was totally shocking today. Goodness only knows what Kemp & Mahmood were thinking with their shots. Fair play to Essex, they bowled superbly throughout, fielded well, were captained well and ultimately held their nerve to win. I think I'll stay away from any Kent finals in the future as they've lost both this year!

Well done Essex, who outplayed Kent throughout. But the match was won and lost at the toss when Rob Key won it and chose to bat -a bizarre decision in cloudy conditions on a greenish pitch. Essex were very disciplined with their bowling and a couple of the Kent batsmen played poor shots. But Essex had the best of the bowling conditions and made the most of it.

How is Rob Key a cheat? Seems a bit harsh.

Funnily enough he was not out yesterday as all the replays show but he walked without complaint.

Can't see how the man is a cheat and have watched him play for Kent since he was a youngster.

Sorry but he did have a little look back and I'm afraid I believe he questions too many decisions - look at that one against Leicester a couple of weeks back. i agree he's not awful but he does seem to play too hard at certain times and I would prefer not to have him as my captain. Sorry.

Kent seem to be lacking a little discipline and 'killer instinct' in finals at the moment - I thought Foster was awesome behind the stumps

Sorry Oliver but we both got it wrong, I did mean to say 11 wides. Just checked the score book and it was 22 extras conceded by Kent, with 4 no balls and 11 wides. Which is very much in keeping with Sadj and Liam's performances a few years back.biggrin
