Bradley Saunders goes outOlympics by Huntex (U3369034) 14 August 2008 I feel he would be more suited to professional boxing and reminds me a lot of Ricky Hatton. As for his performance, it was a wee bit messy at times but the frenchman being taller proved to be an advantage. Latest 10 commentsRead members' comments or add your own

Scottrf (U9767632) posted Aug 14, 2008 Because of the reach advantage he definately needed to take it to him on the inside, but instead of lunging he should have closed him with his gloves up. Just think he was a bit nervous and desperate, and needed to vary his punches more.

The problem is this isn't a pro fight and you have to box in a certain way, Bradley didn't and really paid for it. Billy Joe was a bit unlucky but should learn from the cuban boxer how to make your punches score.

Huntex (U3369034) posted Aug 14, 2008 Thanks for the response Scottrf, but sorry I should have worded it better, I was wondering on Pecadillo's opinion on how Saunders should have fought the fight as he feels his he had no game plan, which could be correct to be fair. Agree with what you're saying though.

pecmeister general (U2806392) posted Aug 14, 2008 I was expecting Bradley to just maybe not lunge in as much,it all seemed a bit predictable, i accept the problem he had with reach advantage, but everything seemed a little rushed. He also seemed intent on spoiling his opponents work rather than trying to slip punches and counter. The same goes for Billy Joe.I dont know whether they felt they needed to go for the KO or not, but i feel in the amateurs, you need to feel your opponent out a little in the opening round and then up the workrate rather than going out all guns blazing

gilbertoAVFC (U9517755) posted Aug 14, 2008 Saunders never had a chance with those judges today. The amount that he got in that were not counted was unreal. The French lad also had a load of his punches counted that he didn't connect properly with.

However, I was a bit perplexed when Bradley admitted after the fight he hadn't done his "homework" on his opponent. He fought with his "heart and not his head". When the Head coach agreed about his attitude it makes me wonder if this gentleman should be in charge of the team, partic as he sent somebody home for being over weight!

joesoaper (U12693216) posted Aug 15, 2008 Well put "willtellyouthis". The way our boxers were being hyped up beforehand, you (and the boxers)could be forgiven for thinking that all they had to do was turn up and the gold was theirs! Fun-time Frankie didn't think even that was necessary!! Run it past me again, how much of OUR money are they being paid? Still never mind, we can always have the consolation of blaming the scoring system, dieticians etc, after its all over. Not forgetting of course that this is only a rehearsal (for our boys that lost or were overweight)for the London olympics in 2012. Well bang a gong and bring them on!(more excuses that is) Comment on this article
