ANTHONY GARDNER

Premier League Hull City

Spurs fan in peace. Would just like to say that I will be devastated if Anthony's move to Hull is made permanent. Apart from Derby County, Spurs conceeded the most goals in the Premier League last season, and if the England internationals injurys hadn't prevented him starting so little games, this would have most certainly been rectified.

He is also versatile, he had a brief spell up front with Defoe for us a few seasons ago, great technique for such a big man, is there a chance he may feature up front with Dean Windass?

I personally think it's a great move for both clubs - Gardner's got potential, which is why we bought him in the first place, but he's never really had a proper chance to show it. Hull will be a great place for him to (hopefully) prosper as a player, good luck to both.

exactly what I think... at last a Spurs fan talking sense.. I guess the rest of you are just letting off steam abt the prospect of losing both Keane & Berbatov.. ah you already sold Defoe too to your UEFA Cup rivals Pompey...

How much money have we generated from sales of players this year ? (add in Berbatov) must be nearly 70 million ?

I for one am very am disappointed to see this player leave and think Hull have done a great bit of business. I wish him the very best of luck, I hope you have a great season and stay up.

He had a terrible time with injuries and became the fall guy for playing in some poor Tottenham sides. He has made mistakes but showed his versatility and I don't believe he would not now be in strong contention for a place in Tottenham's squad had he not been plagued by some very unfortunate injuries. He has played well at full back on the left and is now a experienced and much more mature player. I would swap Dawson for Gardner in our present squad any day of the week. Gardner has bags of pace and though he has too been error prone he has not had the time to settle and get a proper run to prove himself. I think he could turn out to be a really good buy for your club. He's also a true professional and behaves himself like a gentleman.

Many who criticize Anthony Gardner also rate Dawson highly. Gardner realised he had to leave to play first team football. You should be happy to have him. He is still only 27 and has many good years left as a Premiership player. I predict he will be a success with you and that it is a mistake to underestimate his potential and attributes so easily. Trust your manager on this one. He has shown courage and can obviously spot what he requires to keep your club up. It will be very tough to do but with Anthony Gardner you have a very good player who is better and more talented than he is being given credit for by many commentators on the Spurs sites. I was hoping Ramos would have kept him but it appears that he had fallen down the pecking order at WHL. I fully expect Tottenham to have another CB as a top priority and would be much happier with Gardner still with Spurs now.

Many thanks for that considered, balanced, well written, and seemingly honest critique, Lbanum.

We hope your appraisal turns out to be an accurate one.

I'm surprised by this move. As a Spurs fan, I like Gardner a lot. I thought he got a tough time and people expected him to be immediately as solid as Ledley King. Very difficult when you are not playing every week. Truth is, he has Premiership experience, he's only going to get better and better. A good signing for Hull and I wish him every success.

Just read Libanum's post... Spot on.

Bargain or not, we couldn't afford £7.8 million.

Gardner is our record signing - and he'll do just fine.winkeye

DomShelfSide - Gardner can play well against Thierry Henry, but that seems to be it!

once again another great bit of business by brown, he may be our record signing but this def is a true bargain, no money wasted here!

He's a player i always had in my fantasy team.. even if he was the cheap option winkeye

and yes, it seems he has a great chance of been upfront for us given our current attacking line-up
