Why take the chance?Premier League Arsenal by Plymouth Gooner (U4402143) 13 August 2008 Most Arsenal fans believe that we are a couple of signings away from having a team that can win the title. I believe that two signings and we'd have the best squad in the country. Silvestre would be perfect! He'd be happy to be part of a rotation of CBs, he could fill in at LB as cover for Clichy and could be relied upon in the big games. Being near the end of his career it also wouldn't hamper the progress of the likes of Senderos, Djourou, Song and Nordveit. I'd also like a partner for Fabregas. A physical player capable of doing the dirty work and allowing Fabregas to flourish. Denilson, Diaby and Ramsey are all good squad players but Denilson and Diaby have not seized the opportunities given to them. You could argue that Ramsey might become that player - but why take the chance? We have lots of youngsters and no doubt some of them will come good. It could be argued that signing experienced players would hamper their progress, that there is a good chance that they will make the step up this season and win something - but why take the chance? The money needed to sign two experienced players is nothing compared to the money we'd accumulate if we won the Premiership or the Champions League. Not just prize money, but from what it would do for the 'Arsenal brand'. Two signings would make our squad one of Wenger's best ever, Wenger might suggest that we have players who could step up, but why take the chance? Nicholls (U11380273) posted Aug 20, 2008 The problem is Arsenal rely heavily on the brilliance of wenger to keep up with Man utd and Chelsea. His system of play is like no other, and with a squad of overall less talented players than the top 2, manages to cut teams apart with their brilliant play. Canny signings have also helped over the years. When their system breaks down there is almost never a plan B, and only ever seems to be a plan B when Adebayor is on form which didn’t happen in the latter part of last season. In my opinion Arsenal did very well last season to make the gap only 4 points.

NORTH_MANCHESTER M40 (U12525980) posted Aug 21, 2008 In England there are only 3 other clubs that are considered of an equal stature to Arsenal and in Europe I'd say there are only another 5 - the big 2 of Spain and the big 3 in Italy.
