FC Twente v Arsenal
Uefa Champions League, third qualifying round, first leg.

Wenger V Mclaren, Our season will offiacially begin tonight. Mclaren had a good record against the big clubs and he certainly will know how to play against us so here comes 10 men behind the ball. Im going for a hard fought 1-0 to the Arsenal. Any Thoughts Please!

I can see our injuries being a blessing in disguise.

Some of the youngsters are going to play in their first champions league game. Their confidence is going to rocket playing alongside some of the fully established players on such a scene.

Another good thing that I can see is that McClown will not have a clue how to go about stopping our youngsters in the middle of the park. He is going to have to rethink his tactics as the players he no doubt picked them for will not be playing.

Shock defeat for Arsenal.

Midfielder Theo "Tandjes" Janssen has a tremendous left leg and scores twice tonight. 2-0. For sure smiley

Very good Footy, I wonder if this is another one of AW's ingenious ploys to confound the enemy this time being the wally with the brolly.
However I am with you I think its a blessing in disguise.

Just a genuine question. Can you ever remember a game where RVP has played well on the wing for Arsenal? He a striker end of story. Even when plays for Holland he plays as one of three strikers not a winger.

To be honest Van Persie has played very well on the Wing for us on a few occassions.

Also he's played alot of games for Holland on the Right Wing and looked good there.

I was dismayed at how poorly Ramsey played against Sevilla. Or rather, it didn't bother me one bit because I didn't think any of our hopes would rest on Ramsey this season, that he was still developing, and that we might next see him in the Carling Cup...

That is, until the plague hit Arsenal.

Now all I can think of is how much Ramsey looked out of his depth against the Sevilla midfield. I really do hope it was just a bad game for him, and the fact that he was surrounded by a lot of ineptitude (notably Jay Thomas, who, it must be said, was played out of position).

As for Denilson, he impressed me this pre-season, but not like Flamini did last year.

Walcott is all running and no product.

Eboue is a RB misused as a RM who loses possession and slows our attack.

In short, I really hope our midfield raises its game tonight.

Bunburyist, you haven't been sounding your usual positive and optimistic self lately. You must really be worried with the current state of the team.
The problem is central midfield, its tooo lightweight and Wenger should really have done something about this. Getting rid of Diarra, Flamini and then Gilberto and then leaving it to the last few days of the transfer window to sign someone is not smart. I mean look at the situation we find ourselves in tonight... at the eve of a CL qualifier! Worrying days.

I laugh at Arsenal's lack of midfield. Gilberto, Flamini and Hleb out, Nasri, Ramsey and Bischoff in is just Arsene going youth crazy. As soon as your young players get good they just want to leave for a better club anyway

Zell182,

Remember how you spent 50 million last season on Torres, Voronin, Babel, Lucas and Skrtel while we sold Henry and Ljungberg... and still ended up beating you by 7 odd points in the league.
