Hailing heroic Harrington

US PGA
comment on the article

From small acorns grow great oaks and Padraig Harrington is certainly that.

The man who once collected second places like the rest of us collect loose change has now won three majors in 13 months.

And he is fast turning into one of the vey great figures in the game.

With Tiger Woods absent, Harrington has become the most potent threat to his once untouchable world number one status.

And now he has discovered the key to winning majors, he could become the thorn in Woods's side when the American returns from injury, perhaps at next year's Masters, to resume his quest to break Jack Nicklaus's major record.

What do you make of Harrington's achievement? Where does this put him in world golf?

And what about runner-up Sergio Garcia? Just unlucky this time, or yet more evidence of his frailty at key moments?

I am & forever will be in complete awe of Tiger & his courage in winning this year's US Open. However his knee will never be the same again & unfortunately he will probably have recurring pains again. the question is, in winning major no. 14 did he give everything he had left? could he go through that 4 or 5 more times? You'd never question Tiger's head but we must worry about his body. get well soon Tiger..

What Tiger has been is on the record, what he will be is conjecture and depends on his desire and his health. If both are intact and he makes a full recovery he will be better than he was before if not he will still go down as the best golfer that ever was.

Harrington may be able to match tiger for courage and an ability to play his best under exreme psychological pressure but he doesn't have tigers range of shot and scope of game. Interestingly Montie who has been one of the most skillful golfers ever, succeeding despite his fragile temperement, would have been a match for anyone with Padraigs mental strength.

Frstly, my Handicap is 28.
My thoughts. Once in a generation, there is an example of an individual who is born to do something. If the Almighty, with a hammer and chisel set out to make a golfer, he would make Tiger Woods.
With respect to all other golfers, the competition is for second place.
The scary thing is, he is maturing, as a golfer and an individual. The best is yet to come.

Tiger Woods has not only been a golfing phenomenon but a true sports star! Golf today is probably more competitive than it ever was and Tiger probably wins as many tournaments as he loses. That said, Padraig Harrington's achievement of winning 3 majors in just over a year shows that he is ready to challenge Woods should the Tiger lose any of his bite!
Sergio Garcia is another who could go from strength to strength if he can finally make a major breakthrough. European golf is stronger now than ever and hopefully that will show in our major returns in the next few years. Bring on the Ryder Cup!

harrington is a top class player who has found the winning formula in the last couple of years. his performance at birkdale on the back 9 showed how class he is. his second to 17 was one of the best shots ever played. under that pressure with a one shot lead to hit it to 6 feet was incredible.

in the uspga, his drive and determination to get up and down from the thick rough showed what a gutsy fighter he is. hes not always pretty but he is very effective.

i think harrington will go on to win more majors but once tiger returns from injury, i dont think he will be too keen to lose his number 1 spot. tiger has got plenty left in him, and i just think it is only a matter of time before he surpasses jack nicklaus record.

No one can or ever will challenge Tiger Woods. If he wins 3 more majors with Woods at his best, then i will eat those words but really, that just aint ever gonna happen.

Woods is a once in a life time athlete. The world will never see another like it.
