Olympics - Day Three

comment on the article

It happened, it finally happened.

After one-and-a-bit days of panicking among British sport's doom-merchants, the nation collected not only its first medal, but its first gold medal courtesy of Nicole Cooke, who produced a cracking sprint to win the women's road race.

Elsewhere in Olympic world, swimmer Michael Phelps got off to a great start in his bid to win eight gold medals by setting a world record time to win the men's 400m individual medley.

So what about today?

British eyes will be on the men's 10m synchro final featuring "14-year-old Tom Daley" (which appears to be his full name) and the older Blake Aldridge (0730-0825 BST).

There is also more than half a chance that Team GB will win their first medals in the pool with Rebecca Adlington and Joanne Jackson going in the women's 400m free (0417 BST).

Meanwhile, the cross-country section of the equestrian begins with the Brits fourth overall after the dressage.

On the international front Michael Phelps will be going for his second gold in the 4x100m relay final.

Thirteen golds in total to be won on Monday.

Why can people not spell the word "definitely"? Really gets my goat...

Some? About half the English speaking world if the internet is anything to go by.

For best Olympian how about Paavo Nurmi? Unbelievable achievements in '20 and '24.

I dont reckon that Bevan fella has a stupid enough team to qualify as a quality text commentator. Lets face it Ben Dirs and Caroline Cheese comments are much funnier because of their names. Mr Bevan I think you should consider changing your name or getting a new job.

The bbc coverage has been excellent so far. I enjoy the commentators the most. Excuse my ignorance as don't know their names but whoever does the Swimming, Equestrian and Rowing commentary are awesome. Transfer them over to football please bbc.

Tippoftheiceberg: "If you have lots of money, own an expensive horse, pay for expensive trainers, pay for stables and horse feed, then you can be a success."

Everybody is allowed an opinion, but what I really can't stand is people making judgments on thing they know NOTHING about. Those riders are not wealthy, they rely on sponsorship and wealty people to give them horses to ride. Eventing is a very physical sport that requires considerable skill.

Has anyone else noticed how Redgrave keeps getting referred to using his title Sir Steve Redgrave but Matt Pinsent's title gets left out? I'm pretty sure Pinsent worked just as hard for his medals and knighthood. That said I see this has been corrected in today's article about the coxless four...

Bye Bye Murray Muppets, please don't bother turning up in 2012! What a hopeless effort that was.

Tom Daley has such a great smile, such a great attitude. He's a fantastic kid. Wish he was mine. Mine is more like Mr Murray unfortunately....
He's 19. Maybe it's just an age thing.
