Better or Worse?

Scottish Premier Celtic Rangers

Rangers struggled to win yesterday and today Celtic needed a soft penalty to win, both against teams who will probably finish in the bottom half of the league, my question is:

Are Rangers and Celtic worse or has the rest of Scottish football caught up with us?

Both games are typical starters of a new season, and nerves are always an issue. Celtic have a lot to live up to and the pressure of going for their 4th league title, and rangers the pressure of trying to stop it and winning something of substance afters years in the wilderness. The penalty was definite for Celtic despite what anyone says, Vennegor was put off his shot by having his left arm tugged and that is a penalisable offence in the box, though I didnt think a red card warranted.
That being said both should have won more comfortably than they did and I would expect that they will shake off these results to improve as the early matches progress. As to the rest Motherwell, Dundee Utd and maybe Hearts seem to have progressed and the managers of Motherwell and Dundee Utd at least have shown they can compete and I would expect them to be even more competitive this time around. It'll still be a Celtic Rangers 1-2 though!

Never a penalty.

Other teams have caught up a little bit and the gulf has also reduced because the old firm can't spend like they used to - especially Rangers. I still believe Celtic are way ahead of the pack and will improve as the season goes on... it was only the first game after all.

It was a stone wall penalty. JVOH was clearly fouled, Ive watched the replays over and over and cant see any reason why ref wouldnt give penalty. These decisions even out over season anyway - Celtic seem to get more bad decisions than good, so hopefully this season we will have more luck with the refs. Last season we were poor on opening day to Killie, so ill take another slow start if we win the league again.

Ohhh did I upset you Total? Sorry. Ok, so it IS (correct emphasis)a contact sport where contact should be MINIMAL (is that a good enough definition?..doh)Think your splitting the proverbials though. Don't think it stretches to trying to swap jerseys during open play. And the reason for the foul? Bloody woeful defending... albeit from a useless hike up the park from Naylor. JVOH should never had got near it.
Had to be a sending off though, cos in that position, one decision goes with the other.

I love Celtic fans saying that the majority of calls go against them. I've watched for years and they get 80% of call in their favour. They won the league last year on pure fantasy officiating. That's why we're all switching to watching the EPL. Soon Celtic will be able to play in a one team league. I hope you enjoy yourselves.

St Mirren deserved the win??? What (if any) game did you watch? St Mirren had one chance easily dealt with by Boruc, we were poor but still managed a goal (no it wasn't a penalty, but from the only view the ref had it was stonewall) and 70% posession was enough, we'll definetely get better while Rangers will struggle all season, Chelsea will be lucky 2 finish 3rd biggrin
