Wow, I am on such a high! What a dramatic start to the season!

Anyway, just thought I'd share my views on the individual players:

Tom Heaton: the passback incident wasn't too clever, and the kicking was a bit dodgy once or twice. But he never made a blunder that put us into a very threatening situation. I've got confidence in this guy. 7/10

Kevin McNaughton: Some great link-up play with McNaughton and some good tackles. Has a keen eye for the pass and really showed his attacking mentality. 8/10

Glenn Loovens: He was fine, didn't really make huge mistakes, but in the first half some of his passes were half-hearted and he kept passing back to the keeper when there was a Saint attacker right on his tail. Nevertheless, still some good defending. 7/10

Roger Johnson: A rock as ever, and the hero of the day. Not much else to say, really, he puts his heart into every single game. 8/10

Mark Kennedy: Don't think this guy added anything special to the team. Did his job, but was completely outshone by McNaughton. 6/10

Joe Ledley: A frustrating game for him at times, but he still created some good attacking options and put his heart into everything. 7/10

Gavin Rae: Did a decent job, worked hard, but can be replaced IMO. 6/10

Stephen McPhail: I am really not a fan of this guy, but it must be said I think he was sensational. Some great silky movement, great passing and made some fantastic tackles. Star Man. 9/10

Peter Whittingham: As above, some great link-up passing with McNaughton, and was very involved in the first half. Good display. 7/10

Ross McCormack: I like the look of this guy, he was lively and did some good passing. He let a great pass go through his leg (thought Thommo was behind) when he'd have scored (probably) if he shot, but he looked a good asset. 7.5/10

Steve Thompson: Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Not a spectacular performance, but he scored, and you can't say fairer than that. 7.5/10

Someone else can do the subs.

I thought Loovens was really poor today. Sell him quick, before we have to give him away. If we could con £2 million out of anybody I'm sure DJ could get a better player (who wants to play for us) for half the price.

A couple (or three) of Grolsch down the hatch and the moggy’s grinning away on the sofa. That’s 3 points more than this time last year, and I’ll take that any time.

Negatives? – Well, despite his goal, Thommo doesn’t convince me, and I said before the team was announced that Parry should have started instead of Whitts. Kennedy did just enough (only just), but despite the flak he took last year, Capaldi is the choice LB at the club.

Loovens got his inevitable yellow card and will surely win the race to the first suspension and Rae looked rather ordinary to me. Rossko will be better for the game, but he just ain’t the natural “no. 9” predatory goal poacher we need.

Positives? - 3 points in the bin!! ok

McPhail was absolute class and Johnson is like a man possessed in his passion. Thought Bothroyd looked up for it for his 30 minute baptism and Macca has got to be the best RB in the Champ bar none!

I know we’ve got a CC game at Bournemouth on Tuesday, but the Donny next Saturday is SO IMPORTANT to this club. Good win for them today at Derby who seem to have lost the belief that they can win, but 3 points next week up there would give us a great start to the season.

I truly believe that this is our year – there is no reason at all why we shouldn’t occupy the new stadium next season as members of the Premier League. ( alright, I’ve had a few, but you gotta have a dream ain’t you?) ok

I think you and I both predicted a great season for McPhail and I am hearing wonderful reports about his game today. The reports I am getting suggest that we have had a few more if there had been someone up front who could have made more telling runs for him. Was that your take on it?

BTW Remember the old saying "The beer is in and the truth is out" winkeye

Clingo - "In Vino Veritas" is absolutley correct - (just substitute Grolsch for vino). biggrin

McPhail was innefective last year. Wrong mix up front for us didn't suit him, and he should have been left out by Jones because he didn't fit the side - not through lack of ability.

This year could be so different for him (and us!) if he has the right targets up front to aim for.

Rossko looks like he could develop into one, and from what I saw of Jay, if he gets the bit between his teeth and makes the runs, McPhail will be a different player this year.

I think we should put Ledley in centre with Mcphail then take Rae out and put Parry on the left. I also think that Comminges should of started instead of Whitts, he was quite bad today.

That was the best performance I've seen from McPhail. Sheer brilliant.

I think Whitts was off colour apart from one or two moments in the game where he found a bit of space

McCoramck didn't do enough for me today, but, I've seen worse debut performances.

McNaughton was also absolutely superb as has been pointed out.

I just hope Kennedy gets taken out of the team A.S.A.P as Ledley had to do so much tracking back today that he didn't have much chance to be forward and because he's a key player for us; we can ill afford him being wasted in games. Couldn't Commingues have slotted at LB today? Or Ledley as left back and Parry as Left Midfielder?

Some good opinions here, guys.

So the main points seem to be that Kennedy and maybe Whittingham should perhaps be considered for the bench in the next league game. This is how I'd shuffle up:
Heaton
McNaughton Johnson Loovens Comminges
Parry McPhail Rae Ledley
McCormack Bothroyd

I especially agree with Cathaysblue (and a few others) about Bothroyd and Parry, I think their entrance made a difference.

Clingondrum, I'm sorry - I forgot it's quite difficult for you to get to many games. I hope our feedback/analysis is some small consolation for you, we all know City is your heart and soul. ok

You are kind and generous of spirit sir. Yes, this board is my lifeblood as far as a sense of participation is concerned. I am really grateful for everything written here. Better than reading the press because it comes from true fans.
I buy the DVD's from the club but it is normally a week before I get them, but I am investigating some sort of live coverage.
Thanks again, I am very grateful. ok
