Do United need another striker?

Premier League Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that United may not buy a striker this summer.

www.manchestereveningnews.co...

As far as i'm concerned we must sign a cetre-forward.

We currently have as possibilities: Rooney, Tevez, Saha, Manucho and Campbell

Rooney and Tevez are both second strikers who aren't very clinical and have little aerial power. They worked very well together last season but more often than not Rooney adopted the centre-forward role and i believe that hindered his level of performance. We probably should be playing one or the other with an out an out striker.

Saha is very injury prone and may still be leaving the club this summer, Manucho is unproven and potentially unavailable and Campbell is pacy but not particularly good in the air and misses plenty of chances.

The fact is we do not have a reliable, goal-scoring centre-forward in our entire squad and rather than restng on our laurels we should be trying to improve and deal with the weaknesses we have in order to stay ahead of the rest.

The movement of Rooney and Tevez does give space for Ronaldo but i think it's unfair to assume that Ronaldo will score that many goals again next season and i feel a more clinical striker with more aerial presence will help take the burden off Ronaldo.

Also the player i hope we sign doesn't have to be a target-man just someone fairly tall and good in the air but also on the deck like a fit Saha for exapmle.

If the player is good in the air they can give players like Nani a genuine target in the box. Someone like Torres would have been ideal as he would stretch the defence leaving more space for Rooney/Tevez or Ronaldo and it would give United the option of altering the style of play which can be important at the highest level

Thoughts?

UPDATE:

Sir Alex has now come out and said that United are looking at a few options and he hopes to bring someone in before the start of the new season.

I think that's great news

At the moment with Giggs, Park, Nani and Ronaldo in the squad we don't need Robinho

You say it like you have a choice, I think everybody knows that if he is going anywhere this summer it is Chelsea!

********

I have to say Chelsea are welcome to Robinho, i really do not rate this guy. And we already have players that are very skilful, Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Tevez, Rooney.

Robinho is way too small and fragile. He's quick !!

But i'd take Berbatov or Huntelaar over him anyday !!!

I wonder if Klose is available, he has experience and can hit the back of the net.

I'd still go for Huntelaar though.

Maybe it might be an idea to bring in Henry and Huntleer if the money is right. Experience and youth would be a good mix, Huntleer would be learing from the master.

Am I the only person on the planet who thought Van Nistlerooy was useless. OK, he racked up a lot of goals, usually against Sturm Graaz from Austria or whatever they were called, and the weaker premier league opposition but someone of that ilk, or even Michael Owen's calibre, simply isn't good enough for United. Henry maybe and Berbatov perhaps but neither of them are seemingly for sale and this Villa chap at Valencia won't come to the Premier league.

It's time for manchester united to sign David Silva to restore the title because he is the only rival to support manutd effectively. He is looking for chance and manutd must sign him it's an urgent need...
