Hungarian GP thoughts...

Massa in my opinion did the best start off the line of the season so far. Moreover, that was some agressive driving and certainly shocked Hamilton. I believe he was easily the driver of the day, with Timo Glock a close second. Glock had been brilliant all weekend, considering he came off that crash. At the last stint Raikkonen came alive and was taking chunks of seconds off Timo's lead over him, and yet again clocked the fastest lap. I think all the hype about Hamilton scoring a hattrick affected him a bit although he did keep on Massa's pace throughout the first stint and he did well to get 4 valuable points in the end.

Kovalainen..well we all have to agree the win was gifted to him but nevertheless he was up there and was actually driving faster than Massa consistently in the end. With regards to Alonso, a truly determined drive from him. He did really well to keep that position in front of Raikkonen for what seemed to be ages.

Conclusions: Raikkonen is back in the hunt and this podium might be a triggering factor that may return him back to form.

Massa can be very agressive racing driver, is determined and is one of the most unlucky drivers out there.

Hamilton thought winning would be easier than it was. Lesson learnt.

Kubica..I can't help but write him off for the championship; strtegy didn't work, car didn't work.

Kovalainen- lucky but is very fast and will soon show us that he can win on merit.

Glock- Great. Will the results be coming in more often now?

Piquet 6th after the podium must be a real boost as well as Alonso scoring 4th. Renault for 4th place in the constructors.

Your thoughts about today's GP and your predictions on this very unpredictable season.

No, Hamilton, Alonso and Kubica (inpo). I don't rate Raikkonen as much as when he came into F1 and Massa can be awesome, but neither are consistent enough. It's also hard to rate some of the new drivers, Piquet and Glock certainly are showing some great potential. Some people say they would all be close if driving the same car but the apparent difference between Hamilton and Kovalainen disproves that. All opinions of course and there to be disagreed with.

Glock was driver of the day.
In the past, Ferrari would have creamed Totoya, yesterday, Kimi was ran ragged by Glock.
2 weeks after a crash as well!

I think if Hamiltons tires didnt let him down so much he'd not only be further ahead in the drivers' championship, but would have also won the championship in his first year. It was on for a great finish until another puncture ruined things for LH who had much more fuel than Massa. I knew massa wouldnt win even when in the dying laps, he's just not a complete driver, not consistant enough, fair enough great start, but this is F1! and he drives for Ferrari! he should be like that every GP! Monaco he was leading and slid off on a damp track, and he's been caught out many other times by the lack of traction control. its never nice to have a victory taken away in the dyin laps, but luck usually balances out over the season and LH deserves some after the abuse he got a few races ago and the troubles he had with tires last year. Kimi is the real threat, he just needs to stop sulking. LH probably did get a bit slack at the start but lesson learnt. LH loves the street circuits and isnt phased by a new track so I'd bet on him at Valencia (if tires dont blow up!) and IMO thats the only way ferrari will have another champion this year.. if its gifted to them due to Mclarens misfortunes.

Just to jump in on the top 3 driver debate i'd go for LH, Alonso and Kimi. Alonso should go to Ferrari and join Kimi, then we'd have something special for next season.

and also, something thats really bugging me is the comments from Damon Hill.. Before the race he was singing LH praises, and how he'd rap it up early, now he's saying Kimi will make it 2 in a row!!?? Bloody hell Damon, thanks for keeping the faith! and supporting the Brits...

Hamilton's comments seemed negative. Whilst it's disappointing to suffer a puncture, that was more than off-set by Massa's *real* misfortune.

Raikkonen seemed to be frustrated by Alonso for much of the race, but he really needs to start doing better in qualifying.

Problems at Ferrari? They really need to pull their socks up. McLaren seem to have the package of '08.

dezabolla - Damon's comments had me confused as well. Damon usually talks a lot of sense as you would expect from a WDC. I can only assume that the report where he's seemingly backing Raikkonen is more about his renewed chances "as an outside bet" rather than his likelyhood of winning the championship. Also, it looked likely before Hungary that McLaren had moved ahead of Ferrari in pace, but the race proved different. However, I'm wondering how Massa managed to find the extra perforemance. It was as if he was using some sort of boost at the beginning to pass Kovalainen and Hamilton, and once in clean air could maintain his pace. Could it be that he overcooked his engine in doing this? I wouldn't want to detract from Massa's excellent passing manoeuver, but for me there's still a question mark over Ferrari's overall pace.

Otherwise Damon, please explain yourself.

"Thats a point why do crap car manufacturers enter F1? I mean Toyota, Renault, Ford, Peugeot etc...? I mean there road cars are awful yet they enter/entered F1... Crazy!!"

It does make you wonder whether there is air getting into SportsAddict's empty head! Let me see...take Ford. The most successful ever F1 engine the DFV, Powering Cobras, kicking Ferrari out of Le Mans forever with the GT40. Dominating 70s rallying with the Mk1 & 2 Escort. In fact having a motorsport heritage almost unmatched. Renault dominated the 1990s in F1 with their ubiquitous V10, and in 1903 were one of the first participants in motor racing...

Assuming that because a manufacturer doesnt make some terribly naff c*ck extention for idiot stockbrokers who insist on red paint somehow makes them inelligible for F1....and lest we forget the badge on the red cars is actually Fiat...

"Hamilton thought winning would be easier than it was - lesson learnt"

TheF1freak, did Hamilton tell you this after the race or are you making assumptions?
