William gallas is to remain captain- i think there is no surprise there. lets hope our captain can rally the team to a successful season and prove all the critics wrong.
Come on william!

i hate gallas. i wished to see rosicky as the captain.
gallas does not even deserve a chance in the 1st eleven. song and toure would do better.

This club has a tradition of 2nd chances. Adams and Merson? ring bells with people? I am not the biggest of Gallas's fans one bit. I think there were better candidates for the job at the time - and his mistakes last season cost us. If we could back Adams in 1996 with his addictions and give him the 2nd chance - can we do the same with Gallas. We could even do the double next year?

I think its the wrong decision, I do think he's had a few chances so far so this isn't technically a second chance. However, central defenders and central defenders are in the best position to see the game. Hopefully he will improve.

Gallas is stupid, emotional, childish, a big baby basically. So he's fit to be arsenal captain.

Nice glass house you live in palmblue. Perhaps the great character shown by Terry in that bar after 9/11 rubbed off on him the wrong way.

Gallas should never have been made captain. At the time he came to the club (and even now, IMO) Kolo should have been the number one choice for the captaincy. He’s been one of our most consistent players since joining the squad, plays with pride & passion, happens to be one the best CB’s in the Prem’ and even though still young(ish) has plenty of experience and the respect of his fellow team-mates. He always conducts himself well on pitch and in the media as well.

What more could you ask for in a captain?

‘youwillc’ – you say that if Gallas was stripped of the captaincy he might leave the club, feel humiliated, or lose confidence and / or start playing badly – that assertion in itself proves that he is NOT captain material. You could therefore argue that after being passed over for the Captaincy Kolo should have acted in the manner you expect Gallas would.

Did he? No

Why? Because he really IS captain material.

Considering that he was made captain pretty much as soon as he joined us, even if Gallas was stripped of the captaincy, he should be honoured that he was even considered for it. It was also stated that Gallas is our only ‘experienced player’ apart from Almunia. I think you are mistaking age for experience. Kolo is younger, but has plenty of experience.

Anyway it’s all moot now as Wenger has made his choice, so as Gooners whether we agree with that choice or not we should all get behind Willy, give him his chance at redemption and hope he comes good.
