Rumours are Rife But What Do We Need ?

Super League Castleford
comment on the article

With all the rumours at the present time about who we have signed who we are talking to and who will we approach, I think the first question needs to be who do we think will be vacating their squad place at the Tigers at the end of the season ?

Then to get to the magic 25 player figure that TM wants for next season which positions do we need to fill to get the balance of the squad right.

My thoughts are :

Out

Guttenbeil (Stay as Coach but not playing)
Dorn (Harlequins)
Hendo(Reports suggest poss Celtics)
Moore (End of loan)
Hlad
Catic
Fletcher

Leaving us with 17 remaining from this years squad Rangi Chase and Dean Widders are now confirmed signings for next year

www.castigers.net

So positions and players to cover if rumours are correct on deals done already.

FullBack ( 1 from)

Ben Cockayne
Stuart Donlan

Wingers (2 from)

Richard Owen
Michael Wainwright
James Evans

Centres (2 from)

Michael Shenton
Ryan Mcgoldrick
Kirk Dixon

Halves (2 from)

Brent Sherwin
Rangi Chase
Anthony Thackray

Props (4 from inc Bench)

Michael Korkidas
Mark Leafa
Liam Higgins
Ryan Boyle
Mitchell Sargent

Hookers (2 from inc Bench)

Hudson

2nd Row (3 from inc Bench)

Peter Lupton
Ryan Clayton
Craig Huby
Dean Widders

Loose Forward (1 from )

Joe Westerman

This is a total of 22 and positions IMO are their Ideals for next yera obviously someplayers can cover other positions (Mcgoldrick FB SO LF for example). IMO we still need another HOOKER and another HALF (as not to sure on Anthony Thackray being able to play at superleague level consistantly and we have a young lad in Rangi Chase there already)also think we are light still in the forwards so for me another PROP and another 2nd ROW .

This would give a squad of 26 plus kids although if we let thackray go that will be the magic 25.

Thoughts guys ?

Your right but doesnt stop people critising other team for doing the same now does it!

See Tim smith at Wigan (or is it because its Wigan) or Menses at Bradford (or is it cos he is old)

cass a heartland team. no relegation for 3 years, a perfect time to develop british youngsters, so what do cass do sign 2 very average imports. whats all the the nonsense TM has said in the past about he would develop british youngsters if no relegation.
cass hang your heads in shame. with no relegation you should be looking to develop brtish talent not give mediocre players from down under fat pay cheque's.

Ive seen cas once or twice so i dont profess to be an expert on them
they look good going forward but weak in defence
imo you need a good full back, a good defensive centre and some experience and power in the pack.

Granted some of these are short term fixes but fozzard would be ideal for you (if he gets fit) higham looks to be on his way at central park hed do a good job and someone like talu to tighten up the backline.

Use these 3 older heads to bring on the youngsters and why not take a chance on some guys from the lower lges, there is talent there just look at the where the two wingers who played for england in the last test started their careers

Three great suggestions there & i would be happy if TM got any of them. Realistically Chase is surely a good signing at just 22, up & coming etc, think werejust getting stck fo the sake of it there. Can understand hat people are saying about Widders though.

Rangi Chase is a 22 year old lad who has played 15 NRL matches this season and was in the International train on squad fror the New Zealand Tour in 2007 so hardly mediocre really lets be honest.

As for Dean Widders an experienced prop/2nd row that has palyed over 150 NRL Matches he is 29 so has a good few years left in him yet so will be good for the young lads to gain a bit from we need some bulking up in our pack for next season and who says we havent signed any British players ??????

These signings cant be announced until 1 sept and if rumours are true we have signed Ryan Hudson and Ben Cockayne both lads from the Cas area so think that shows your arguements dont really hold water at all.

Cas already have plenty of young British talent in their squad now and we intend to run with a 25 man squad with the kids as back up nxt season too !!!!!!

huddersfield1895, look at your own team. Have you not just signed Brett Hodgson and David Faiumu? How many players have you developed over the seasons you've been in Super League. Look at your squad for tomorrows game..Crabtree and Cudjoe. Look at Cas..Shenton, Owen, Huby, Westerman and Boyle..and that's with 2 relegations in the past 4 seasons.
