Chris Wood, top amateur in Open turns pro.

The lure of cash up front and sponsors invitions were inevitable after his Open result.
With limited tournaments in which to gain a tour card for '09 it is likely he will go to the dreaded tour school at year end. Watching the progress of recent converts O. Fisher, Willet and Horsey how will Chris compare in the next 12 months and beyond?

He was due to play (in the English) at the crack of dawn this morning, however, signed his life away to Chubby Chandler at the weekend. He's currently polishing Westwood and Clarke's clubs and boots.
The next Rose/Casey/Willet/Wood is a lad called Hutsby currently leading the Eng Am.

Good that Hutsby is coming up to challenge Higley and Horsey.

Hope they do better than Hoey.

The Gordon Sherry thing is interesting....I played golf in a competition once with a guy who was something in Titleist...he told me that they had just signed Sherry on a 3 year deal at £375000 (not sure if this was per annum or for the 3 years and he was being tipped as being huge then) so Sherry had no money worries when he first turned pro

Mcilroy did well last year after doing well in the Open. He got his card without Q school, although he's not set the world a light this year he is set to retain his card

I think there have been a lot of generalisations in this thread, i was a member with chris at Long Ashton and have seen him grow and improve. This is down to not just talent but hard work and being able to apply what he has being taught by the county and England set up. I have played with better strikers of the ball and people with so called more talent, but i have never played with any golfer pro or amateur who has applied it better. I firmly believe he will be as good if not better than Mcilroy.
