Manchester United beat Pompey in the dress-rehersal before the Charity Shield match at Wembley. Man Utd missed a early Penalty from Carlos Tevez but it was Chris Eagles who scored the opening goal before Tevez scored a fantastic second...Jermain Defoe scored in 90th minute but United hold on!

PS: Does anyone know how to do the Red Box? Thanks!

Next time Man Utd should just make the short hop over for a game in Accra. It would be absolutely fantastic and will definetely shut the big mouths of all those fake Chelsea supporters! United for a treble this year!!

I find it hard to believe that you have made this comment seeing Pompey have had one of the meanest defences in the Prem over the last couple of years. As far as Johnson is concerned though it is not his tackleing which is poor it is his distribution after the tackle. He is a good player that there is no need to replace.

Was a completely meaningless exhibition match in front of a 1/3 full 60,000 capacity National Stadium - fine for the expats and those nutters who made the trip from the UK but for the majority of locals the tickets were priced out of their reach. Am sure it would have been a much better spectacle in front of a full house. The Nigerians are mad for the Premier League and especially Man U, Chelsea & Arsenal - shame it did not live up to expectations for them, though my driver thought it was a beautiful game. David James tried hard to live up to his calamity tag in the 2nd half.
Scholes MOM without a doubt, nice to see the 3 trophies paraded before the match - Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

This guy can't tackle and is a liability but like many before him Harry seems only to worry about scoring goals not defending them.

You havin a laugh? Is he having a Laugh!?!?! Glen Johnson was one of the best defenders in the league last season. He also was exceptional throughout the FA cup, and actually has a winners medal. How man professionals can say that? Not a massive club. As for Pompey defending? Excuse me, but didnt Pompey have a brilliant start defensively last season, ok fell away near the end, but still won a major trophey. I cant believe your complaining about a winning formula.

As a forest fan, i would cut off my testies, to have success again. SHUT UP!

I'd have to agree with loopy, Glen Johnson is generally a damn good Right Back and put in an excellent display against Man Reds when we outplayed and beat them in the FA Cup last season.

benno030 has it right:

"Meaningless for both sides, but we still scored 2 meaningless goals to your one!"

This is a typically Eurocentric article. It's trying very hard to be right-on and anti-globalisation in regard to Africa, but Nigeria has bigger problems than getting people to watch its local football teams. If Premiership football is a welcome escape from the problems of everyday life for the average Nigerian, then all well and good. The country is riddled with corruption, as the article hints. A redistribution of the oil wealth might be a more pertinent article. It's scandalous what is happening in that country but its the same story everywhere: the rich get rich, the poor get poorer.
