The time does suggest that this was a good renewal,Been run 2 seconds under standard.Which means Youmzain probably lost more ground at the speed they were going.
Still the chances of g/f ground in the Arc are minimal.I would be confidend of a different result at Long-champ

For sure, the ground wasnt Youmzains preferred and he would more than likely be closer in the Arc on ground that will suit.

The Duke was something else today. Was counting my winnings on Papal Bull with half a furlong to go. Ah well, best horse deffinately won today.

queen1queen - did you say much BEFORE yesterday's big race? Don't recall seeing anything; apologies if you did. You certainly have been pretty positive AFTER the race. Again, I doubt very much if DOM will win the Arc.

Tremendous performance from the Duke. He has proved beyond all shadow of a doubt that he is the top older middle distance horse in Europe after yesterdays run.

Will he win the Arc?, I honestly dont know but he will run a big race if he goes to Paris.

I just cant get away from the fact that he will face two brilliant 3yo`s in Montmatre and Zarkava and history has told me that if a top class 3yo runs in the Arc then nine times out of ten it will beat the older horses.

DOM may well be the exception but the race is starting to shape up nicely now.

1. Why are people criticising Peslier? He cajoled at least a stone of improvement out of Papal Bull and just got beat by a tougher, classier horse. What more could he have done?

2. I think if the Duke turns up in the Arc he is the one to beat. All ground comes alike to him so conditions will not be an issue. I'm suspecting that Ballydoyle will run Soldier of Fortune in the race though.

All very well but in the closing stages, The Duke was whipped more times than Papal Bull.

There is no reason to criticise Olivier Peslier, he gave the horse a great ride, he was just beaten by a better horse.

IMO i cant see DOM winning the Arc,if Papal Bull had been delivered later we would not be having the conversation and would be saying DOM just didnt stay.an average Arc winner would beat papel bull by more than half a length.
