Robinson joins Rovers from Spurs!!

Premier League Blackburn Rovers

Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has joined Blackburn for £3.5m, signing a five-year contract. BBC Sport

The former Leeds stopper looks set to replace Brad Friedel, who is on the verge of joining Aston Villa. With all the poor form Robinson has experienced over the last year, and with him losing his England place, is this a good move for him?

So is this a good signing for Blackburn? or a good deal for Spurs? Maybe both?

perfect signing for both player and clubs.

at spurs he was out of favour and seemed to be in a marrige he wanted to escape. spurs got a fair bit for him (less than hes worth but even still) rovers have got a keeper who is low on confidence but because of this have got him relatively cheaply. he is very talented and will become 1 england keeper. GOOD DEAL ALL ROUND

When I first saw that Robinson was possibly going to Burn I was surprised. Surprised as I thought Robinson wouldn't contemplate the move. Over time, I have seen the benefits for Robbo moving. He has had his moments but he is a very good keeper. I would have preferred to keep Friedel for another 4 or 5 seasons as he was a legend and will be a tough act to follow. Even with his good press, Friedel was underrated at Rovers. The fans saw how good he was but he was responsible for so many more points over the last few seasons than people know.

Conclusion - was going to be hard to replace Friedel but Ince has done well to secure Robinson. If he can keep Bentley and Santa Cruz, we should be ok this season.

I think this season, what with losing our manager, probs losing one of our best players, all the disruption of appointing a new manager, the fact we have almost no money means that we are probably going to have to take a few steps back before we can go forward again. However this is not blackburn's fault. I hope if we finish say 12th then we give ince another go and gradually try to build our team as long as we don't keep doing knee-jerk reactions like other clubs hopefully we can look to push forward in a few years time but as long as we keep trying to play attractive football we will do ok and stick behind rovers.

I reckon it will be a great signing. A new manager with a good team will allow Robinson a fresh start.

Look at what it did for James.

There was nowt wrong with the one you had - Robbo is a good keeper (at best), but imho Friedel was better.

Friedel is bettetr than Robinson, but business wise it makes sense. Friedel is getting on a bit, and Robinson will be desperate to prove himself again.

awesome signing fo Rovers, he just needs a decent defence in front of him, and not getting made the scapegoat by the London press every week for club and country, because they can't except that the reason both Spurs and England fail is due to the deluded expectations of their fans and that paying a player 80 grand a week doesn't automatically make him better than one earning 20 grand a week at a lesser club.

Welcome to Rovers Robbo!

Good bit of business by Rovers. Robinson was definately made a scapegoat by Tottenham and England. Although James has become better and more dependable with age!

His confidence was utterly shot, he was prob the most ridiculed player in the country, but look what happened to Carson!!! Robbo got slated by know nothing pundits and bandwagon jumping fans who just wanted someone to blame....so yeah thanks all u robbo haters, if he had still been in goal v croatia we prob would have been in the euros this summer. Spurs fans, although slightly annoyed by his dip in form, never had the knives out for him and he will be very fondly remembered....it was only 2 years ago he was prob our best player, and hes still young for a keeper, so a good signing for rovers. He will be englands number one again, hes too determined and resilient not to be.

Most spurs fans wanted him to leave, as much for his own good as ours because he wasnt enjoying it and his confidence was shattered. a new beginning will be good for all
Personally i cant see why spurs didnt make more of an effort for Friedel. Gomes looks an excellent keeper, but, well......hes brazilian.

Btw, one thing he is crap at is saving long range shots and free kicks. although the reason fo rthat may be that Jermain Jens wouldnt close down a player on the edge of our box if the very existance of the univers depended on it. He will run back doing the 'fake-hustle' , but will never actually get near enough to the ball to challenge. And dont get me started on him actually inside the box. motionless. thinks that if he stands totally still watching the ball intentley and praying hard enough the ball wont go in.
