London Grand Prix - Friday

International athletics
comment on the article
Christine Ohuruogu

The London Grand Prix is the last chance for some of the world's top athletes to compete before they arrive in Beijing for the Olympics.

Tyson Gay is missing with a hamstring injury, but we still have Asafa Powell (100m) and Usain Bolt (200m), fresh off their speedboat, going up against GB's finest on Friday and Saturday respectively.

49 of the 68 British athletes going to Beijing are in action at Crystal Palace.

Friday brings us Andy Baddeley in the mile, a trio of GB triple-jumpers led by Phillips Idowu and, in Gay's absence, my new Grand Prix highlight: Nicola Sanders up against team-mate Christine Ohuruogu in the 400m.

Who will you be watching? Has Tyson Gay's absence put a dampener on proceedings for you? Which of Sanders or Ohuruogu will be crowned 400m queen? Do you expect Olympic athletes to hold back and save something for the Games?

Let me know your thoughts.

You're wrong. We're talking about the 100m hurdles.

This is the big one....

Can Jamaica achieve a 1-2-3?

Or can the Trinis upset the applecart?

With Kim COllins in the race, this has a West Indian flavour!

Powell wins, but Burns finished well for second....

That said, Asafa didn't push himself particularly hard towards the end.

A Jamaica XI of Powell-BOlt-Frater-Carter looks very good....

Powell always looks awesome when he has that bit of a lead and can relax.

He tends to struggle when he's being pressured. I'd like him to win in Beijing though.

I was pleased Phillips Idowu got his act together after a bit of a shaky start. His last jump was spoilt by landing on the long jump take off board making an unstable surface to complete the jump phase. This was still an impressive 17.42m.

It was very fortunate that Kelly Sotherton or any of the other hurdlers were not injured because of the hurdle placement mistake. Kelly's long jump was impressive. If she can repeat that in Beijing it will boost her points score significantly.

I wasn't impressed with Christine Ohurougu or Nicola Sanders. Nearer 50 seconds dead would have sent a more worrying signal to Sanya Richards.
