----------------------------------------------------------
IND-SL test series is levelled at 1-1. The scene is set now, for the Grand Test finale, in Colombo starting 08Aug08.....

Pre-match build up
1) Bouncy track more likely
“This looks a fine surface,” said Anuruddha Polonwita, who as National Curator supervises the preparation of all playing strips in Sri Lanka. “This wicket will have bounce. The spinners, the quicker bowlers and the batsman will all enjoy playing on it, a little bit of something for everybody.”

2) Sri Lanka to bolster pace attack

3) Parthiv Patel to replace Dinesh Kaarthick

4)Anil Kumble - on the final test

5)'We aren’t worried about Ishant' - Jayawardene

Possible teams from
IND-Kumble(c),Sehwag,Gambhir,Dravid,Tendulkar,Ganguly,Laxman, R Sharma,D Karthik(wk),P Patel(wk),Harbhajan,I Sharma,Z Khan,RP Singh,M Patel,Ojha.

SL - Jayawardene(C),Sangakkara,Warnapura, Samaweera,Vandort, Dilshan,Silva,Kapugedera,Thushara,Vaas,P Jayawardene (wk),Muralitharan,Mendis,Kulasekera,Prasad.

Classy, thanks for the link. Looks like a good game. Never heard of it before but always good to learn something new.

I watched the match live on Chavster last night. Match times are not friendly for my time zone. We returned home at about 2am. My wife stayed up watching olympics on telly as she is friends with the families of a couple of athletes. I watched the test match stream from 2-7am. Pretty decent quality stream.

I was impressed with Mendis. For a bowler with an unusual grip, he was very accurate with his line and as the twist of his arm remains about the same at the point of delivery, it must be quite hard to read his variations.

Laxman keeps getting bewildered by this one delivery that lands on the off-stump line and moves just a bit toward first slip, almost like a leg-cutter. It looked like he has not able to pick up this one at the point of delivery in the entire series.

Tendulkar had a few lucky escapes playing forward and offering no stroke when the ball would skid and straighten up or turn less than expected. But, Tendulkar kept using that suicidal strategy and got done in.

Dravid has played the spinners better than Laxman, Ganguly and Tendulkar so far in this inning, but this is a hopeless situation for India. They need a lead of at least 150 runs to make this a challenge and I don't see it happening.

The only Indian batsmen that handled the SL spinners are Sehwag and Gambhir. The more experienced middle-order should have learnt from them. You can't keep on offering front-foot bat-and-pad defence as the staple method of handling these wily SL spinners.

Fun fact

SL beat India in the carom world championship.Ending Indian dominance in that sport.

I could play Mendis with my eyes closed!

It's just like batting against Paul Collingwood!

Off-cutters and leg-cutters and slower balls!

Hearty Congrats to SL deserved winners of the Test and Series

India threw away the opportunity with a lousy first innings

I cannot see what BCCI will do other than brush under carpet and let the goldies face up to Aus .. one last time

me think BCCI discussions will be as confused and hilarious as this skit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sShMA85pv8M

Eg:
Is Dravid No 3 or N0 6?

Who is on position 3 ? Laxman

And Ishanth will bowl tomorrow? etc

Need to see the funny side as SL secret weapon Mendis torpedoed some pretty fancy names along with regular cover fire from Murali and occasional mortar from Prasad! smiley

The last time India have been flummoxed like this by other than current Aus and SA side is the WI side in the 80s and Imran's Pakistan in 1982

Good news for SL as the bowling resources gives them time to build up their batting for more sterner tests abroad

AS for India? They will still progress to youth and the shorter game,. as the goldies fade away, I think India's ODI fortunes will be better than Tests for a season or so till Test batsmen replacements mature

I think the ODI will be well contested. The younger Indian players have got the right attitude if not the experience. We saw younger Srilanka players outperform Vaas and Murali to a certain extent. It was younge Mendis and Parasd who did most of the damage in the 3rd test that cost us the series.....It will be good to see the young guns trying to step up thier game against M&M rather watch our seniors embarassed!
