Conor Sammon

Scottish Premier Kilmarnock
comment on the article

Just been reading reports linking him with a move to Kilmarnock. Was wondering on peoples opinions on this. Think it's a great move for the player personally, but don't know if he is SPL standard! Be interested to see the transfer fee involved here as he is only in the first year of his contract with Derry City. I'm sure this move must have been sparked by the return to action of Sammy Morrow last Friday night and City's other attacking options with Farren, McHugh and Stewart. Any views on this potential transfer and Killie fans feel free to add your views also.

I gather there`ll be a fee to pay for Sammon as he`s still under contract...?

Just seems a bit strange that we`re even considering this one since Pistol Pete wasn`t worth the gamble with his 44 goals in 50 games strike-rate...? erm

Yeah, there will be a fee for Sammon as he's only joined Derry City at the start of the current season in Ireland. It is a strange move for Kilmarnock as Sammon hasn't set the world alight at the Brandywell and hasn't even managed to hold down a regular starting spot....although he did have a lot of success with UCD before moving to Derry and is a Rep of Ireland under-age international I think. As I said in original post great personal move for the player and financially for Derry City....but not sure if he is SPL standard!...He certainly aint no Paddy McCourt!!!

surely the only way we would sign this guy was if it was on deadline day and we had tried everyone else? While we are why not offer Mark Roberts a trial if thats the standard we are going for?

Let's give JJ a bit of respect here. If he is going to go for Sammon then he must see some potential in the lad. He's only 21 and maybe JJ sees him more as someone who can develop into a first team regular over the next year or so. Remember that JJ has said he wants THREE new strikers to join Russell before the start of the season. I assume that at least one of them will be a fully experienced SPL striker, maybe Lovell. But until the players actually join the Club a lot of this is just paper talk and I don't think we should get too het up about it.

Killie Pie I do take on board what you are saying, however I am fed up being linked with players only to watch them go to other clubs. Why dont we take a plune and sign on of them.

Yes this may seem hypocritical as I am a big ££ issue man, but the classic example of not signing Joel Thomas cos he got injured by bein slightly injured in Italy is a joke. JJ said, he was impressed wiv the boy and wanted take things further, then a few days later he has went 180 and let the boy go cos he got a hamstring strain in Italy. but how many came back injured after intial pre season???

Its a fair point you make theginuwinearticle, I suppose the bottom line will be who actually DOES sign for us. Maybe there were other factors that JJ did not feel inclined to reveal regarding his decision not to sign Thomas. I'm just hoping, as you and all the rest of us are, that some decent signings are made, especially in the striking department. I'm looking at the rst of the SPL squads and thinking that eighth would represent a good season for us now..............

8th is my aim KilliePie, I feel that if we have a year of stability above 10th then we will have progressed from last season. (Even if i still have murmurings about the gruesome twosome)
