England - South Africa

comment on the article

Morning all,

I'll shortly be bringing you the live text for the second day of the second Test between England and South Africa.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

We had 13 wickets and 304 runs yesterday - what might we see today? And is new boy Darren Pattinson already being seen as a busted flush selection, or is the jury still out?

Do get involved and join the debate.

gosh and I watched the match in the middle of the nite here in NZ. and Freddie had to bowl the bulk of the english innings..he feels even worst then I. sorry lads, the rain might safe your bacon. which would be very unfair, because SA is the better team.

Why do they all think Freddie can bowl this team out single handedly? He has two 5 fors in test cricket, he is a great bowler but the way the rest of them bowled he can't get 10 for each innings. England have to sort out the keeper if they are going for him at 6 it needs to be a pro-batsmen rather than pro-keeper. Ambrose should be dropped and will have to be to make the order work but who knows for tomorrow a couple of early wickets into their tail you just never know.

If Ambrose is dropped who should come play instead?

we need mahmood jones and flintoff all at once 90mph bowlers with a fit sidebottom and its heavy damage for all teams..

can we please stop about mahmood, he isnt of a good quality!!
Broad is so much better and also in the last game was sending down 90+mph balls!
Sidebottom, Jones, Flintoff and Broad as a pace attack with panesar spinning - thats quite mennacing
then with mustard instead of ambrose, we have a good team, batsman with abily, experience, youth an flair. bowlers with pace, swing agression, intelligence and spin!!!

wasnt a hard decision for the selectors, and they still got it wrong

like saying 1 and 1 is 11 tongueout
Strauss
Cook
Vaughn (will get the score - eventually)
Pietersen
Bell
Mustard
Flintoff
Broad
Sidebottom
Jones
Panesar

runs and wickets from them will win matches!

Moores is a fool, he is dismantling the ashes winning team. He wants a team of subserviant journeyman, just like himself.

Why do people rate Broad.
I agree he might be one for the future, but not for now.
Against the Kiwi's, who are nothing but a club side he was OK. Against real international teams he will just look average,
His average now is about 42, against top international it will slide towards 60! Do you seriously think this is good eneough?
Harmison and Jones must come back. They deserve another run, they deserve it more than an unproven, club player like Paternson.
Keeper must be Foster, his keeping is world class and we need world class players. I guess we need world class selectors to pick world class players and we sure ain't got them.

I agree Barry, the ECB hace played a shocker with Moores. He is doing what he is qualified to do, building a decent County side. Unfortunately, County cricket isnt test cricket and Moores is out of his depth. "Subserviant journeymen" is a very apt description, which just shows how woeful Moore's management ability must be. This England side will never be world beaters with a second rate inexperienced international manager. Moores must go. Surely England can attract better than him.

Strauss
Cook
Vaughan
KP
Bell
Collingwood/Shah
Foster
Flintoff
Harmison
Anderson
Panesar/S Jones

Broad must be dropped. Despite the obvious depth he gives the batting line up, he is in the team as a bowler, and is currently as threatening with the ball as Collingwood. Yes he has talent and could do well in the future, but taking wickets at 40plus does not warrant his place in the side.

I expect Ambrose to keep his place int he side for this series, but after that i would like to see Foster in. Best gloveman in the country, that can bat. Granted he cannot bat as well as Prior, but with the countless runs that Prior wouls with missed stumings/runouts and dropped catches, he cannot be in the side.

Flintoff in for his bowling, consistency personified. Harmison as a strike bowler who is close to being back to his best.

I think i am one of the few people that really rate Anderson. He cam under pressure and has since proved a lot of people wrong. He is currently our best bowler, IMO, and cannot be dropped. I would have him in over Jones at the moment. Only time will tell whether this prevails.

Monty to play on turning pitches, and Jones to play if it is swinging (HEADINGLY!! (Not Pattinson...)

Wholsesale changes cannot be made to the batting line up. Not because all of our top 6 are top class but because they are the best we have. I have never been convinced by Cook, but i cannot see him being ousted by the likes of Key, Carberry or Denly.

Bring Shah in to the side and give Colly some county time. When his form arives, bring him back. He is a gritty player that steps up when needed (unlike Bell), and can add to the bolwing attack to rest our main bowlers and is an inpiration in the field.

Moores has become a blithering if somewhat eloquent idiot resorting to a rolodex of excuses for England's lackluster performances. Worse still he continues to see value in mediocrity such as Flintoff and the inept stewardship of Vaughn. He has become part of problem rather than the salvation. Time for change and bring Hussain in.

saw a few highlights on the news, and an interview with Moores, said Pattison was selected because he can swing the ball
what?
erm, sorry, does that mean Hoggard (experienced, proven international) same pace or Jones (experienced and proven as well) bowling at speeds up to 90+mph cant swing it???
hmmm, maybe the selectors should look a little deeper when selecting

Surprised this thread is getting so few comments.

Jones has to come back in for the next test, as well as Vaughan out, Strauss Captain and probably even another bowling change (has anyone dared question Monty's current effectiveness ).

Somehow I can't see this match lasting beyond tomorrow.
