Browse: Boxing Docked Pointsby src1968 (U991989) 19 July 2008 As someone who only watches boxing occasionally I was wondering if judges have to dock points when the referee says so. I can't see that they took a blind bit of notice of the ref in the Williams fight last night. Latest 10 commentsRead members' comments or add your own

WORTHSTER (U10379110) posted Jul 21, 2008 McDermott must feel agrieved about the result, but to be fair, he looked lost before that superb 5th. I would of gone for McDermott to just shade it with the points deductions, but Danny showed great heart coming back from that round - he got caught flush about 10 times - you don't usually see that in the HW's!

icemaxmin (U11706621) posted Jul 21, 2008 I don't know what all the fuss about the result is, it was quite clearly a win for Danny Williams. I re-watched the fight on Sunday morning and scored the fight 115-112 Williams. McDermott only won one round clearly, and I think that I was being generous scoring the fifth a 10-8 (I hate 10-8 rounds where there isn't a knockdown) and the 1st, 6th and 11th even, I was tempted to deduct McDermott points for being a complete disgrace to the pugilistic art but resisted this temptation. Even with the three point deductions in the 11th and 12th there was still clear water between the pair.

hudsoneagle (U7847943) posted Jul 21, 2008 McDermott doest have a big enough punch to make the grade so this result is the best for British boxing. How Williams didnt go down in the 5th i just dont know. He got hit so many times and all heavy shots as well. McDermott should have been able to put him away but he didnt have that heavyweight punch.

Gladius157 (U10381134) posted Jul 21, 2008 Danny's got to earn a living, and as such he's entitled to try and put whatever slant he can on such a tedious none-event of a fight. BUT, what does bother me is his continual referrals to his freak-show against the ghost of Mike Tyson. A fat no-hope part-timer did Tyson after Williams too. If that's going to be the peak of Danny's career, then for Christ's sake get out now son.

AndrewGibbs (U4683343) posted Jul 22, 2008 Apart from the KO of a shot Tyson, Im not sure I've ever really seen Williams at his true potential. He's been one of the most frustrating British fighters I can remember following. I beleive his has a genuine talent, losts of heart, a great chin and telling power, but the man is almost never in shape. I hate to sound too anal, but if you fail to prepare, then you prepare to fail, which is pretty much the story of Danny's highflight career, and I dont see it changing, not at 35 yrs old.....what a shame!
