Spare a thought for Hoggard

International Tests England
comment on the article

am i wrong in thinking Englands Mr Reliable is at the end of the line.

that a rookie like Darren Pattinson was picked over him because he can swing the ball must have been a real slap on his face.

I can understand not picking S.Jones so there is no risk of him and Flintoff breaking down. However, not to pick Hoggard is disgraceful.

They said that they picked Pattison becuasethey wanted someone to pitch the ball up and swing. Hang on a minute!!! DOESN'T HOGGARD PITCH THE BALL UP AND SWING IT

seen the 'catch' over and over again now, after cooks terrible dimisal i feel a bit miffed off to say the least. Add that to my feelings about hoggard not being picked and i'm a very unhappy cricket fan today! I feel sorry for pattison because unless he takes a hatful of wickets he is on a hiding to nothing from the press. Selectors hang your heads in shame.
Does anyone know if there is somewhere we can officially protest?

Give the guy a chance -he's only bowled 3 overs FFS!

Yes he might have only had 11-12 First class matches, but I seem to recall NZ picking Daniel Vettori after one first class match and he hasn't done so badly, has he.

Whilst i think Hoggard and Tremlett both had a case to play, Harmison and Jones certainly do not.

Can anyone remeber the last time Harmison bowled well for England?

Have you seen Jones recently? He's been on the Pukka pie diet I reckon. Wickets in the second division don't mean much when you get to test level

they should've picked

strauss, cook, vaughan, KP, bell, colly, flintoff, ambrose, broad, anderson, panesar.

Flintoff is no longer an all rounder and i really dont think we need 5 full bowlers, 4 is enough plus colly. as regards Vaughan, its a shame his batting isnt better but his captaincy is worth a few wickets an innings, its that good. shame he can't do both like ponting!

PS- SA are v lucky to be on top- they dropped 4 wickets not 3 and Cooks dismissal was appalling. Bowden is a terrible umpire!

Ambrose out and Chris Read in. Best keeper in England, averaged 60 odd in 06 and 50 odd in 07. As for KP as captain - you what?! On what basis would you have him as Captain, he hasn't even Captained his county side. He's better off coming in for a slog at 4

Any Yorkshire fan delighted that Hoggy is not picked?

I certianly am.

No disrespect to Hoggy but we need him - we are going thru very DARK times and have not won a match LEGALLY for quite some time.

However - i do believe England will regret not picking Hoggy.

Pattinson has still only bowled three overs, so I'm yet to be convinced that this was a brilliant selection....
