Gutted that Steve Hanley has had to retire due to injury.

As the leading point scorer in premiership history he has much to be proud of and it is a shame that he was only rewarded with one cap.

He has given supporters many moments to cheer and we can only wish him all the best for the future.

Cheers Stan I'm just sorry you couldn't retire after one last foray onto the field.

Fair enough, thought you were having a snipe. Apologies if I was incorrect. Your intention obviously doesn't match how I interpreted your comment so I do apologize.

A fantastic winger and the most clinical finisher the premiership has ever see - FACT.

It was a terrible shame he got on the wrong side of Woodward because he would have been an incredible international had he not been left at the wayside as a young player.

Funny this in his only England game he scored a try and then broke his wrist in the process! I don't think he was on for that long.

England's loss was Sale's gain.

Top chap, great player, unlicky with Woodward & England.

It's a shame really! One of those players you thought should have got more caps! In all fairness not many people could stop a fully raging rampaging Craig Quinnell! I'm sad because that is what he has been remembered for!

Hanley was a wonderful attacking winger but his defence was poor. If it was half decent he would have been a fixture in the Eng side.

I played with Steve back in University, ball in hand he was devastating. My claim to fame is that he stopped playing for us after christmas in case he jeapodised a big money move from Aspatria, leaving me to pick up 'Fresher of the year' in his absence!!!

A year later he was scoring for England against Wales while I sat at home watching it on TV, so I guess he had the last laugh.
