Live - The Open, day one

The Open

Devalued? Behave...

We'll say it once, and once only. (All right, who am I kidding, we'll say it a lot more than that, but anyway...). Arguably the greatest golfer the game has ever seen, Tiger Woods, is not here. Get over it.

And OK, there are doubts over reigning champion Padraig Harrington's fitness. Whatever.

And, yes, instead of the glorious conditions we've enjoyed in London over the past few days, Royal Birkdale is a wash of teeming rain and driving wind. Pah, minor details...

This, ladies and gentleman, is The Open. I am pumped. If you are too, get involved via text on 81111 or, after 0900 BST, on 606. If you're not - why not?!

He should never be allowed to enter the Open again. The conditions were the same for everyone, but he was the only player to throw a dicky fit. Time he was taking up gardening.

daly is a joke
no respect no style just a below average golfer who twice made it and has now lost the plot
he should stay at home and give somebody else a chance to play in The Open

yep such a selfish act of Beem and Lyle. I guess they didn't like the conditions, maybe thinking of blowing out on their scores and just chucked it in. 2 other golfers in line and keen to play not getting their chance.
having said that, playing golf in such conditions isn't fun at all..but the Shark is going well so far..can he go the full distance or does age creep up on him??

I have seen frankly a more recognizable, talented and more youthful line up at my local crazy golf. Where did the organisers find this lot of has beens and who's thats-the yellow pages?.If you can't find anyone good or interesting then call it off as presently all this is doing is embarrassing the game and the open history.

What point is there in having Gary Lineker as anchor man. His boorish, football old pals act, poor attempts at silly jokes are completely lost in the golfing world. He has no respect amongst the players and should leave the scene asap.

The BBC has an otherwise excellent commentary team, without the exception of GL they are knowledgeable who must cringe every time GL comes in for his few minutes of weird humour. The rest of the team are a joy to listen to & give informed opinions of the golf and players and are a credit to broadcasting.

Come on Mr. Choi! I took the 40/1 at the start of Day 1 and have bragging rights at the moment!

I'm delighted that Woods isn't playing. Maybe this means that the BBC will show some of the other players.

Clovisguy is right. Sandy Lyle has done himself , his fellow players and the paying public a huge disservice. He has made himself look a prize idiot and needs casting aside by the R & A
