I agree. Twenty20 has been a bit of light relief in the height of summer and as member I have gone to watch enjoyed it but never taken it seriously. Now it seems like the whole season will revolve around it.

Good plan but why are the ECB keeping two 20/20 tournaments?

As I read it there will be the EPL and something like the 20/20 cup we have the moment. That will reduce the novelty value of 20/20 and further increase player workloads.

"If cricket is to rival football" - what? Like, if Shakespeare is to rival the Beano (and I'm a fan of both). It's a non-issue. Fast food can be fun; but I don't go to a Michelin-starred restaurant for curried chips.

DMJ - you make my point for me. Of course Hampshire has wealth and a big ground. Their EPL proposal was all about wealth and big grounds. The comment to which I was replying suggested that the proposal was actually designed to ensure higher standards of cricket. To do that, you'd need to award franchises to the sides playing the best cricket. That proposal had nothing to do with standards and everything to do with the greed of its backers.

How r the ECB gonna spread enough money to bring in top players around 20 teams? how are they even gonna find enough top players to fill the overseas slots in every team! this is ridiculous!

I still can't understand the reason behind the inclusion of 2 overseas teams in a domestic team!
Its out of character to be included in a domestic competition which will have a foreign players anyway!
Unless by 'overseas' ECB means Ireland or Scotland or may be Holland!

Any problems with this arise not from the format of the domestic game, but the availability of players. If the world's best are going to play international cricket, and IPL, and EPL, and this Champions League thing, and domestic cricket too... well, it isn't possible.

Something's going to have to be scrapped. I don't think anyone wants a battle for survival among rival competitions and their backers.
