Meet the new Senna

Formula One

The “next Senna” is a label that has been applied to a number of aspiring Formula One stars since the Brazilian legend was killed, but there is one young driver to whom the title really does apply.

Ayrton’s nephew Bruno is on the verge of an F1 drive next year after impressing in the GP2 feeder category and, without wanting to get carried away on a driver who is not even in F1, the 24-year-old is already showing some similarities to his uncle.

The article, an interview with Bruno Senna, continues here news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/mot...

I like the look of Bruno - he's bloody good. This is only his fourth year back in racing and he's already starting to dominate. He has a lot of natural talent.

Imagine how it must be for someone like Gerhard Berger - those sideways glance moments when Bruno really does look like Ayrton...

I liked the story of the McLaren mechanic (poor fella!).

Must take exception to one point. Bruno does look so very like Ayrton, his eyes are the same colour and shape, but they don't have the same light in them, the same mystical allure that Ayrton had, that made him so special. loveblush

Good luck to him - I just hope the media pressures (when the lower levels get on the band wagon) do not become too intense. It will need sensitive and honest management to let him achieve what it seems he may be capable of. We'll watch with interest!

He hasn't lit up the racing world in the Junior formula like his Uncle did, but then again who has.

There is a much more structured approach to the racing ladder know, and with the exception of Kimi, all serve their time.

I think he will do well in F1 so long as the pressure from back home does not get too much for him.

In any year in F1 there are 1 or 2 (possibly 3) star drivers with larger group of excellent but not mega drivers....I think he will sit in this league...but hey, until he gets his arse in a car who knows ??

Far too early to make any real judgement.
I seem to remember all sorts of high expectations for Piquet Jnr. which have, so far, come to little of note.
Driving ability is not hereditary, I'd hate to see him become another F1 PR dream simply because of his uncle.

As much as I'd like to see a 'Senna' back in a formula 1 car he's still got a long way to go.

The step from GP2 to F1 is still a big one with a steep learning curve.

At Silverstone this year Bruno Senna made quite a few mistakes which cost him the first race although he did drive well in the sprint.

Just because he's got a famous name it doesn't make him a great driver. Piquet Jr has already been mentioned (although the fact that he has developed a habit of passing Alonso is making me smile) and a couple of years ago at the British Grand Prix I watched Matthias Lauda in the GP2s and he was absolutely awful! Great names do not make great drivers.

We'll see I guess but good luck to him his uncle certainly rated him and Gerhard is an old family friend, so see how it goes, he writes a blog in the autosport journal.

Amuses me the 'next Senna'/next Senna bit ('Is Senna the 'next Senna'?'), Bruno actually being one.
What happens if we have another 'next Senna' hype for some other driver, with the present Senna on the grid?
'Is Senna as Senna as the 'next Senna'?'

....its such a shame that he missed out on those 10 years. I can understand why his family pulled him out though. I have no reason to believe he would not be a great were it not for those missed 10 years of experience. he can still make it though. Remember Ayrton..."If you think I'm good wait until you see my nephew, Bruno" thats all I need, if the man himself thinks he's good enough, HE IS.

Hey Just found this-

When leaving McLaren at the end of 1993, Ayrton Senna had said: "If you think I'm good, just wait until you see my nephew Bruno". Bruno raced go-karts against Ayrton on the family farm, and it was clear that Ayrton regarded his nephew's potential very highly.
