Wednesday's gossip column

comment on the article

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has said the summer transfer market is out of control but, if this morning's papers are anything to go by, no-one seems to be listening.

Newcastle seem to have stepped up their recruitment drive a notch and are being linked with a number of players.

According to the Daily Mirror, Argentina forward Pablo Aimar is set for a £7m move to St James' Park, while Holland midfielder Nigel De Jong and Liverpool left-back Emiliano Insua are also on Kevin Keegan's radar.

The Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry and Dimitar Berbatov sagas get the usual mention, but we are no clearer on where the trio will be playing next season.

Meanwhile, Stoke are poised to shatter their transfer record with the £4.5m signing of Reading striker Dave Kitson and Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is considering a surprise move for former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune.

Today's gossip can be found in the usual place

As always, we'd like to hear your thoughts.

Sometimes I forget when reading these rumours that they are, in fact, rumours and nothing more. The saga between Ronaldo, Man United and changes so often I wonder why i even bother reading them.

Surely it's because of the fantastic level of wit and educational debate yeah?

For what it's worth, I expect we'll tie up Berbatov for around £25m and that Ronaldo will stay for this seaosn before moving next. Not even Madrid will spend that much on him if he's out till October. I'd also like us to bring in a replacement this season to let im settle in to the side
