Well I think it says one of two things about Bridge. As you said We all follow United, either he seriously lacks ambition by being happy to sit on his arse, play about 20 games a year and pick up the money OR he actually has faith in his ability and thinks he can oust that waste of space Cole. Interstingly he signed the contract before Scolari arrived, so i think you can count the latter suggestion out and see that he's just happy to sit on the bench and take the money. Shame, cos he's a much better player than Cole. Fair play to Sidwell - he gave it a shot, it didnt work out, so he left to play regular football. Bridge has been there five years, and is content to play when Cole is injured. Spineless and unambitious.

I'm pretty shocked actually that Bridge would rather sit on the bench than play 1st team football, whether that be at Pompey or elsewhere. On a different note the reported figures of 70 to 80 grand a week coupled with the reported 140k a week Lampard has snubbed just go to show why Chelsea have become so hated amongst all football fans. They keep spouting this rubbish about breaking even within so many years but its never going to happen and just makes Kenyon look like a figure of fun.
What sort of example does it set when your new manager openly admits he came for the money? By the time they give Drogba a massive new contract, then Ballack their wage bill will be higher than ever. Add to that Deco, Robinho and whatever other supposed superstars they sign and Chelsea will have something like 8 or 9 players earning 100k a week plus, its crazy!

Bridge has just signed a contract to sit on the bench for 4years.

think that says a lot about his character and has probally thrown away the chance to become and england regular.

As usual it was all media hype. Harry hadn't even approach Chelsea or Wayne Bridge. What a surprise, but surely we have all learnt enough not to believe everything we read in the press?

I think this great news for Chelsea, I actually rate Bridge very highly a part from that disgraceful game he had for England(not that he was alone).
I think Ashley Cole has been far from his best ever since he left Arsenal, there were glimpses of the player he was but I don't think I've seen him take on and beat a player in years, which is what he was always known for.

Good news for Chelsea opponents.

Does Phil play Cashley who is good going forward, but is a liability the rest of the time.

Or does he play Bridge, who doesn't know what to do with a football.

And these two are England's best left backs?

Oh bloody dear.

Firstly, I pretty much agree with everything backtobasicscfc wrote. I'm surprised it hasn't got more positive feedback. Nice one.

I just don't understand what is so difficult about the idea of a player wanting to be at Chelsea instead of Portsmouth (or almost any other team, for that matter). Ask most football fans around the world and its a complete "no brainer".

As far as ambition is concerned, wouldn't an ambitious player rather fight for a place in a club where it is incredibly difficult to get in the first team, play with some of the best players in the world and compete in (and have a great chance of winning) the biggest competitions in club football? That's true ambition. In fact, it's virtually every footballer's ambition.

I've nothing against Portsmouth, but as far as ambition goes, last year the manager said the club may well never have it so good ever again.

In this day and age of greedy players, it's a bit ironic to berate a player for not moving clubs. I just don't understand what the big deal is.

The conclusion is that most people on this board need to stop moaning and grow up.

ha, cheers pcl1111 (U10057384) i got carried away and wrote a short novel on the subject so i guess people probably didn't bother reading it lol

bridge will obviously be staying because he won't get it so good anywhere else, even though he might play more - but that's still the best kind of footballer in the modern game. this is what it's become

Wayne Bridge has officially thrown away the best years of his career just to either line his pockets or he seriously believes that he can beat CAshley Cole to that left-back position.

Personally, I think Cole is over-rated, but I wish Wayne Bridge all the best. Te only Chelsea player I can actually admire!
